Loads, Aerodynamics Controls (LAC)
LAC RD has overall responsibility for the operational performance of Vestas wind turbines. This function includes developing the airfoils of the blades, calculating the turbine loads and providing turbine control. By optimising the tradeoff between power production and structural loads, the Cost of Energy is continuously being driven down for both existing and future turbine designs.

We now have an opportunity for an experienced and talented Aerodynamicist to join the team and play a lead role as a technical expert and main contributor to LAC Aero projects with strong manufacturing related contents.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks

In this position, you will be responsible for:

·         Providing input to Technology Planning; Identifying and developing potential technology opportunities in UK.

·         Advising senior management on technical risks and opportunities related to critical design solutions and developments; assess performance / aero impact of blade shape and ad-hoc modifications.

·         Initiating participating in technical reviews: ensure design quality through cross-functional review, coaching and change orientation. Perform technical sign off for relevant reviews and documents.

·         Capturing and documenting manufacturability requirements for blade aero-design.

·         Contributing to LAC Aero Product Development and Technology Development in cooperation with DK, Chennai and other teams to include maintaining an awareness of relevant developments in industry and research fields.

·         Knowledge sharing and coaching: disseminate knowledge through training, communication material. Understand applicable regulations.

 

Qualifications and Work Experience

         Masters or PhD qualified in a relevant LAC Aero discipline.

         Several years’ experience in aerodynamics, performance and
CFD analysis of complex aero systems. Specific experience in
Wind Turbines aerodynamics provides a distinct advantage.

         Knowledge about the manufacture of wind turbine blades.

         Experience in review and sign off activities.

         Experience in testing of aero components in relevant or similar
products is highly advantageous.

         Proven team player; capability to influence; strong personal
drive; ability to understand directions and priorities and
proactively translate them into actionable plans

Additional Information

Your primary workplace will be Isle of Wight, UK.

Travel is a requirement of the role mostly to Denmark, but other ad-hoc requirements in line with business needs is likely.
