Description
- Develop noise assessment methods for transition to the Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT), help in determining the effectiveness of programs for protecting and improving the quality of the environment, and provide technical support for the formulation and preparation of recommendations for programs and projects with focus on the noise modeling capabilities associated with compliance with the noise category of the National Environmental Policy Act and FAA noise regulations.
- Also contribute to development and application of environmental metrics and analytical models to support the determination of the economics, cost effectiveness, tradeoffs, and operational solutions to aviation-related noise problems involving aircraft, airport, and airspace operations.
- Will provide engineering analytical support to the AEDT and Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions, and Noise (CLEEN) Programs to identify and address technology gaps and ensure AEDT and CLEEN technical objectives are met.
- Strong organization ability, comfort as a technical liaison to environmental stakeholders, and solid presentation/writing skills. Knowledge of the FAA and familiarity with commercial aviation operations is a significant plus.
- Assists in the planning and conceptualization of new products and product enhancements. Conducts design meetings to prepare project plans and objectives in conjunction with business development, product support and other team members.
- Develops and analyzes moderately complex aeronautical/astronautical designs for current and conceptualized hardware, components and systems. Conducts analyses, generates systems and subsystem design requirements, prepares plans and drawings using design software.
- Develops qualification test procedures and performs qualification testing. Conducts testing and integration testing for functionality and limits. Examines and evaluates mechanical designs for feasibility.
- Creates working prototype(s) for beta testing and customer demonstration. Analyzes critical areas of the design including dimensional, structural and thermal. Prepares reports of results and conclusions. Recommends and implements changes to design based on conclusions.
- Interfaces with suppliers, vendors/contractors and cross functional teams to ensure necessary resources are available for product implementation. Provides expertise to production staff to ensure accurate production of product.
- Researches new technology and/or development tools to remain informed of current technology.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Master's degree in aeronautical/astronautical engineering or related field preferred
- Seven or more years of experience in aeronautical/astronautical engineering analysis or design and development
- Experience working with aeronautical/astronautical design principles and practices
- Experience working with product design principles
- Experience working with drawing standards including tolerances and detailed drawings
- Experience working with production processes to include fabrication, plastic injection molding, metal forming and/or machining processes
- Advanced Degree in Aeronautical Engineering with 7 or more years of experience preferred
- Environmental noise assessment experience desired
- System/Process Design experience desired
- Scientific analysis experience desired
- Database experience desired
- MATLAB experience desired
- Good skills in computer assisted design (CAD) software such as Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, etc.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills for the design and testing of prototype(s) through product release
- Good organization and time management skills to maintain project deadlines
- Good interpersonal skills to interact with team members, vendors and contractors
- Good communication skills to interact with internal and external personnel and to convey project intent
- Ability to use common power and hand tools and electrical and tolerance measuring devices and equipment for the development of prototypes
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
