ANALYST/ASSOCIATE – PRIVATE EQUITY FUND OF FUNDS GROUP

Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners (“MS AIP”) is Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s alternative investments group.  MS AIP is an autonomous investment business consisting of three units – the Fund of Hedge Funds Group, the Private Equity Fund of Funds Group, and the Real Estate Fund of Funds Group.  AIP is a leading alternative asset manager with an extensive and market leading track record, a global investment scope, and assets under management in excess of $21 billion, across Private Equity, Hedge Funds and Real Estate, with 180 professionals globally.  AIP’s Private Equity team, which manages $8.5 billion of assets, is comprised of approximately 30 investment professionals based in US, Europe and Asia, who invest in private equity funds and make direct co-investments globally.

AIP is seeking a candidate for its private equity investment team to focus on private equity fund investing and co-investments, to be located in London.

Responsibilities:
The team conducts extensive quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify, evaluate, execute, and monitor investments of three types:
• Investments directly into new private equity funds (including buyout, growth, venture, distressed, and special situations strategies).
• Direct co-investments into companies or portfolios alongside leading private equity managers.
• Secondary acquisitions of positions in existing private equity funds.

Investment professionals at the Analyst/Associate level work closely with Principals and Portfolio Managers on 3-4 person deal teams and are responsible for asset valuation analysis, modelling and financial projections, quantitative and qualitative analysis, business, industry, and market research, and monitoring investments made across asset classes.

Skills Required
• Strong Bachelors’ degree or equivalent (analytical, finance or economics orientation preferred)
• Proven experience in a relevant and related field (e.g. investment banking, private equity, management consulting, or private equity fund investment)
• Working knowledge of financial analysis and asset valuation techniques
• High level of interest in global macroeconomics and geopolitics
• Excellent modelling skills (Excel)
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated fiduciary mindset, or potential to develop such a mindset
• Ability to meet challenging deadlines while maintaining a high degree of quality and accuracy
• Attention to detail and a thorough documentation standard
