Job Description SUMMARY : Provide for the safe and expeditious flow of air traffic within the Fort Irwin restricted airspace and other areas as required. Complies with duty requirements in FAAH 7110.65, AR 95-2, FM 1-300, FM 1-303 and other regulations that pertain to safety of flight and airfield. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : ? Customer assistance and advice in a professional and proficient manner. ? Communicate with military/civilian aircraft using VHF, UHF, FM, and OCCS radios. ? Track aircraft operating within Fort Irwin airspace and other areas as required. ? Coordinate with adjacent ATC facilities as required. ? Receive and disseminate weather information as required. ? Initiate and conduct ground/communications search and rescue procedures for overdue aircraft. ? Activate the crash phone and initiate the pre-accident plan as required. ? Coordinate MEDEVAC routing request. ? Receive, review, process and transmit military/civilian flight plans. ? Issue PPRs as required. ? Perform daily checks on Airspace and Range Operations Support (AROS) computers, Aeronautical Information System (AIS), and other ATC equipment. Perform tape checks and weekly/periodic tape changes on the Digital Voice Recorder System (DVRS) as required. ? Keep airfield services informed of aircraft that require service. ? Maintain required logs and reports. ? Comply with Army Regulations, Field Manuals, FAA Orders, Standard Operating Procedures and other written guidance as applicable. SUPPLEMENTARY FUNCTIONS MAY INCLUDE: ? In the absence of management, will serves as management liaison to ensure the efficiency of airfield operations. ? Type, file and other administrative work. ? Maintain clean orderly work area. ? Maintain reference library and files. ? Submit work order requests. ? Monitor key control program. JOB PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Education: Must posses a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Three years of continuous experience in an FAA or DOD Air Traffic Control facility. Specific Knowledge: Working knowledge of FAA rules and regulations pertaining to separation of aircraft and phraseology. Knowledge of the aviation flight planning and Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) systems. Knowledge of the operation of ground to air communication equipment. Knowledge of the Army Flight Following System. Licenses: Applicant must possess an FAA Control Tower Operator certificate or CTO Certificate of Grades, and an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) certificate. A current Air Traffic Control flight physical. A valid California state driver's license is required. Skills Required: Capable of working with personal computer using word processing programs. Communication Skills: Capable of understanding the English language and speak it clearly so as not to interfere with 2-way radio conversation. Physical/Mental Abilities: Ability to use and interpret Army Manuals. Ability to use good judgement and common sense when performing job functions. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to be punctual. WORKING CONDITIONS : Position: Primarily indoors. Work is in desert type environment. Work week: Rotational Shift Work Hours: Rotational Shift Overtime: Seldom/no guarantee of overtime. Travel Required: Seldom. EQUIPMENT/TOOLS USED: VHF, UHF, FM ground to air radios, SINGARS radio, GMQ 13 wind indicator, HANDAR Weather System, OCCS radio, meteorological display console, calculator, Class "C" vehicles and microfiche viewer, computer system. Common office equipment. Pay Rate: $30.26 hr.
