Ambulatory Risk Manager/Patient Safety Coordinator
Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Actively promotes the use of the MAH Incident Reporting System by educating all staff in the ambulatory areas. Actively promotes reporting in the adverse events management system to our physician and NP members in the ambulatory clinical areas. 2. Collaborates with the patient safety coordinators on the review of significant adverse events to gain an understanding of the processes for root cause analysis. 3. Reviews OPE's (office practice evaluations) to gain an understanding of the areas of risk in the ambulatory clinics and develops an appreciation of best practice" in these areas. Collaborates with the leadership team in ambulatory to Disseminate best practices" to primary care areas. 4. Recommends specific actions to eliminate or mitigate risk of patient harm. 5. Recommends process improvements. 6. In collaboration with medical staff and hospital leadership develops and assists in the implementation of action plans. 7. Works in close collaboration with Practice Managers, Practice Medical Directors, and hospital Quality and Safety Specialists for assigned clinical departments. 8. Provides patient safety consultation for inquiries from physicians, nurses, or other healthcare practioners. 9. Analyzes, summarizes, and reports on patient safety activity to Director of Regulatory Affairs and Executive Director of Quality and Patient Safety. 10. Develops, plans, and conducts ongoing in-service educational programs relating to patient safety activities. 11. Assists the patient. MNST Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. Registered Nurse with Bachelor's Degree required. Masters Degree preferred. 2. Five years minimum Nursing experience, plus related experience in Quality Assurance, Risk Management, or Claims Investigation is required to facilitate the analysis of the medical care. 3. The ability to relate to healthcare providers at all levels and to use clinical judgement in assessing patient care needs. 4. Knowledge of basic research and investigation techniques with an ability to interpret data, prepare reports, and propose solutions to difficult situations involved in a potential or actual patient injury. 5. Excellent and articulate verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required for the effective and creative leadership with physicians, nursing administration, department heads, patients, and patient's families. 6. Knowledge of computers and computer programs. 7. Ability to function independently with minimal supervision. 8. Knowledge of the organization's mission, policies, procedures and services in order to respond to patient inquiries and concerns. 9. Ability to promote confidentiality, respect, and dignity for all persons, as standard for the department and the organization. 10. Ability to effectively consult, advise, and instruct senior management regarding appropriate approaches for dealing with difficult patient issues. MNST
