Americas Director of AML & Sanctions Compliance
Macquarie is a significant provider of institutional banking, securities trading and advisory services to clients globally.Strong prudential management has been a key to Macquarie's success over many years. The Risk Management Group (RMG) is an independent, centralized unit responsible for assessing and monitoring risks across the Macquarie Group. The Compliance Division within Macquarie's Risk Management Group provides compliance support and advice to Macquarie's operating businesses.Macquarie currently operates in four jurisdictions in the Americas, including: the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Mexico. The position would hold the designated Chief AML officer role for key US entities Currently, Macquarie has dedicated AML / CTF and Sanctions staff in both our New York and Toronto offices.
The AML and Sanctions Compliance team within the Compliance Division supports the day to day activities of the business, driving a high and consistent level of compliance and helping to advance Macquarie's broader AML / CTF framework in the Americas region by:
- Developing AML / CTF and Sanctions policies and training local staff on AML / CTF and Sanctions matters.
- Advising on-boarding teams on customer due diligence (CDD) requirements.
- Conducting enhanced due diligence (EDD) measures on clients / counterparties posing elevated levels of risk.
- Staying abreast of sanctions and AML / CTF regulatory developments.
- Working with AML teams in other Macquarie regions to drive efficiency and alignment on global initiatives.
- Managing regulatory examinations where AML/CTF and Sanctions matters are prominently featured.
Key aspects of this role will be to work closely with the Regional Head of Compliance for the Americas to:
- Provide leadership and direction to the team, supporting their development and overseeing all output, fostering an outcomes-focussed, customer responsive and risk aware compliance culture.
- Create increased visibility of AML / CTF and Sanctions risks within the Americas jurisdictions, driving solutions with key business executives and other control functions to better understand and address AML / CTF and Sanctions risks and exposures in jurisdictions which Macquarie has offices.
- Work with a globally dispersed team of colleagues to develop and drive the AML / CTF and Sanctions strategy across Macquarie and facilitate consistent Compliance decisions and approaches, having input to the systems, tools and technology decisions to support AML / CTF and Sanctions compliance globally.
- Manage regulatory examinations, inquiries, and assessments in the area of AML / CTF and Sanctions compliance. Ensure appropriate contacts and awareness of other Americas regulatory engagements
- Build a network of Americas AML / CTF and Sanctions compliance contacts to ensure good visibility of local developments within the Americas region and ensure open communication for global AML / CTF and Sanctions decisions.
- Work with Macquarie's Market Operations division to streamline and consolidate AML/ CTF and Sanctions operations including on-boarding and on-going customer due diligence practices across the region. Periodic board reporting will also be a responsibility of the role.
Successful applicants for this role will require:
- Deep understanding of AML / CTF and Sanctions compliance obligations with years of demonstrated experience in a senior level role.
- A thorough knowledge of institutional banking / brokerage products and services achieved over a number of years working with, if not in, those businesses.
- A strong understanding of AML / CTF and Sanctions compliance requirements pertaining to commodities transactions and shipping (vessels and port screening etc) will be highly regarded.
- International experience and knowledge of AML / CTF standards in multiple jurisdictions and a demonstrated ability to operate across jurisdictions.
- Strong relationship / stakeholder management with demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders through effective communication and persuasive presentations.
- Excellent leadership skills used to drive team outcomes and maintain high employee morale.
- Demonstrated experience successfully engaging with regulators, senior business executives and legal entity boards.
The role has a primary reporting line to the Regional Head of Compliance for the Americas and a secondary reporting line to the Global Head of AML Sanctions Compliance.
