JOB DESCRIPTION

My client, a leading commodities house in Texas, is looking to appoint an analyst – associate level product controller to work on their physical and derivatives commodities desk. The team is arguably the market leader within the commodities space and after another strong year, they are keen to bring onboard 2 controllers. There is both a permanent and contract position available so apply early to avoid disappointment.

Responsibilities: Primarily to undertake the profit and loss analysis for the commodities desk, covering both physical and derivatives products. In line with the desks desires to expand, candidates will be expected to assist with the expansion of the desk and should therefore have strong communication skills. Being able to work and communicate oneself effectively with the traders and risk departments will be essential within this role which is situated within the middle office.

Location:  Houston, Texas  

The role:

• Covering the commodities desk – physical and derivatives

• Reporting into the Head of desk

• Taking the initiative to help with the expansion of the desk

• Collaborate work closely with the front office traders 

• Working upon the daily/monthly PL.

• Ad hoc tasks as/when required

Requirements:

• 2-4 years relevant experience within commodities is required

• Strong communicative skills

• Strong presentation skills

• An internationally recognized accountancy qualification and/or strong mathematical/accountancy background

• Good exposure to the commodities sector

• Experience on working upon complex commodities transactions is desired

• Candidates with exposure to both physical and derivatives products are ideal

• Ability to work effectively autonomously as well as part of a team

• Ambitious individuals

• Commercial Acumen a good communicator

• Knowledge of how to account for physical commodities is a preference

• Understanding of finances imbedded within the trades
