Position Description

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Credit Analyst with 1-2 years relevant experience. The specific position will work within the Credit team covering Morgan Stanley and Morgan Stanley Bank's commercial real estate lending activities, encompassing the CMBS origination/securitization business, as well as direct portfolio loan and lending/relationship management. Additional coverage will also include real estate activities and credit approvals for MS Bank's Community Reinvestment Act responsibilities, PE/RE Fund counterparty exposure analysis and related CRE warehouse lending exposures.

The Credit Risk Management department (CRM) is an independent risk oversight function. CRM evaluates credit risk transactions and approves, rejects or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk (through netting, hedging, loan sale/participation) or risk mitigation (guarantees, collateral, loan structure). CRM interacts with the business unit(s) to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings, establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board, and monitors and reports on credit exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and senior management.

Analysts employ skills fundamental to credit research, including:

• Prepare Credit loan approval memos for real estate names to recommend and document accurate credit risk ratings and exposures.
• Follow up on timely receipt of financial information and perform ongoing Credit Reviews and portfolio loan evaluations, and analysis for Risk Ratings, limit approvals for real estate loans, CRA mortgage loans, and PE/RE Fund loan/IR/FX trading exposures
• Maintain and update written approval/rating documentation, credit file information and ensure that risk reporting systems contain accurate and timely information
• Undertake additional market specific analysis as required, keep current on industry trends and market criteria
• Assist in Firm and Regulatory risk reporting of CRE and CRE related exposures

Skills Required

• Superior written and verbal communication skills, qualitative orientation; ability to manage dynamic priorities
• Prior experience with real estate lending, loan underwriting process and capital market products a plus
• Understanding of the real estate valuation process and familiarity with valuation models a plus
• Basic corporate credit skills and financial statement analysis a plus
