Role Summary

We are presently recruiting for an Analyst, Global Corporate Securities (“GCS”) in the Public Market Investments department. The investment mandate of GCS is to construct a long/short global equity portfolio, recognizing established portfolio construction principles, which incorporates both fundamental and quantitative insights.

The Analyst will be responsible for conducting research and evaluating global opportunities with a focus on special situations such as Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), secondary offerings, significant corporate events, merger risk arbitrage and other strategies. The Analyst will assist in the construction of appropriate hedge baskets, calculate portfolio performance and risk measures, monitor margin and loan commitments, liaise with the CPPIB’s trading desk and Fundamental Research teams, and help foster and drive relationships with the broker/dealer community.

Role Specific Accountabilities

•Assisting the Senior Portfolio Manager in the development, implementation, and monitoring of

alpha-generating, special situation investment strategies

•Participation in meetings with the management of public (or soon to be public) corporations

and sell-side analysts to learn about business models across a range of sectors and geographies

•Development of company valuation models (comparables analysis, DCF, prior transactions)

•Working closely with the equity trading and Fundamental Research teams to leverage market

and industry knowledge

•Communicating daily with sell-side sales/trading/syndication/special situations contacts to

gather market intelligence and new idea generation

•Calculating daily PL, risk and other metrics - reconciling with the various Core Services

departments

•Development of investment hedge baskets - whether they be physical equities, index futures or

swap baskets to neutralize market beta

•Identify and research new investment opportunities

If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:

•1- 3 years of experience in detailed company valuation techniques (DCF, comparables analysis)

•across a number of industries, across a number of geographies

•Strong oral and written communication skills

•Sound knowledge of a range of asset classes (equities, fixed income, derivatives, foreign

exchange)

•CFA or enrolment in the CFA program

•Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics or related field

•Strong mathematical background, financial modeling knowledge, and analytical thinking

•Advanced computer skills – especially with MS Excel 

•High attention to detail

•Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously

•Demonstrated good judgment, professionalism and integrity

•Proven ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team oriented

environment

•Ability to work and learn quickly in a high performing culture, under pressure and with time

sensitive deadlines

•Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable
