Institutional Banking Markets (IBM) is responsible for the provision of products and services to nearly 3000 major corporate, institutional and government clients to optimise our clients’ capital structure and related financial flows. This is achieved through the origination, structuring and execution of on and off balance sheet products that are enhanced through the efficient application of taxation, accounting, risk and capital management technologies. IBM is the primary face to the market for all complex financing and advisory functions for the Bank’s corporate and government clients. 

The Natural Resources Group is responsible for engagement with clients and projects across the Metals Mining, Oil Gas and Commodity Trading sectors and for co-ordinating the efforts of IBM within these industries. The Group is targeting the growth of the Bank’s business with these global industries across all the Bank’s products, with the aim of increasing the Bank’s penetration into these industries and grow the revenue base and NPAT accordingly.

The Natural Resources Team in London has developed a significant portfolio of clients in the oil and gas, mining and metals and commodity trading sectors. Transactions range from single field development finance and other reserve-based lending products for our independent oil and gas clients, to balance sheet-driven revolving credit facilities and working capital facilities for our larger corporate clients. Collaboration with other specialist teams in London, such as Structured Asset Finance, Trade Finance and Infrastructure, is common.

Key Accountabilities:

• Contribute to the profit generated across IBM, increasing revenue from Financial Markets and IBM products in the Natural Resources sectors in the UK and Europe.

• Work with the other members of the Natural Resources Team and other product groups within IBM to develop and deliver the Bank’s strategy within the Natural Resources sectors and to expand the Bank’s client base.

• Understand the Natural Resources industries and the forces acting on these industries to be able to recognise the issues which will be faced by the client base. 

• Develop a working knowledge of the Bank’s product range, within the context of the NRS strategy, and an understanding of the identification and assessment of the key risks associated with the Bank’s Natural Resources clients.

• Assist with the preparation of credit submissions, waiver requests and annual reviews for clients, including the use of return and exposure models.

•Evaluate and develop Excel-based financial cash flow models in order to assist with credit analysis.

• Undertake financial and capital structure analysis for target and existing clients to identify their financial service needs and evaluate the financial options and solutions available to meet these needs.

• Work with colleagues to help identify target companies and provide input into with the preparation of marketing plans.

• Assist team in developing client-focused presentations (including marketing pitches, relationship reviews and discussion papers) based on company specific research, analysis and product capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Essential

• Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Law, Geoscience or Engineering.

• Understanding of, and interest in, the Natural Resources industries and the key drivers affecting these industries.

• Understanding of corporate finance principles and capital structuring issues.

• PC literacy and aptitude in financial modelling

• Strong analytical skills.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Proven presentation skills.

• Visa or residency to work permanently in the UK / EU.

Desirable

• Post graduate qualifications.

• Good understanding of the risks, practices and procedures relating to institutional banking / lending products, services and financial marketing instruments.

• Emerging markets understanding.

• Natural resources industry experience.

• Understanding of the funding process for a lending transaction.

• Language skills.
