Analyst, Research and New Program Development

The Analyst, Research and New Program Development is a member of the School Development team of K12 Inc. reporting to the Senior Director of Research and New Program Development. This position primarily supports the School Development team through policy and marketing research, competitive analysis, leading application and RFP processes, supporting the logistics of regular web-based and face-to-face planning sessions, and supporting the research efforts of third-party consultants. The Analyst, Research and New Program Development will collaborate with School Development team members by analyzing, drafting, and preparing a variety of projects including, but not limited to RFPs, grant applications, school charter applications, federal legislation and opportunities, service agreements to provide curriculum and educational management services, marketing materials, competitive analysis reports, accreditations, awards, speeches, testimony, meeting summaries, and presentations for major conferences and other purposes. This position is based in Herndon, VA.

Key Responsibilities

Primarily, the Analyst, Research and New Program Development will support the Senior Director of Research and New Program Development in his/her effort to:
• Identify and coordinate the input needed from K12 departments (e.g., School Development, School Services, Legal, Systems, Finance, Product Development, Evaluation and Research, Human Relations, etc.), subsidiaries, partners, and others to meet proposal requirements; formulate work plans including timelines; request input; and follow up
• Prepare and submit proposals, including original writing, layout, integrating all input into cohesive documents, and coordination with applicant organization
• Represent K12 Inc., its subsidiaries, and partners in proposal negotiations
• Prepare and submit necessary revisions to proposals
• Contribute to and edit proposals initiated by others on behalf of K12, its subsidiaries, and its partners
• Review third-party research and conduct primary research on state laws, regulations, existing programs, and other forms of market research
• Create and maintain a library of resources and templates to be used in applications and for other business development purposes
• Participate in national, regional, state, and local conferences, workshops, and meetings
• Assume additional responsibilities as needed to secure resources outside K12 which will enhance all K12 business lines

Additionally, the Analyst, Research and New Program Development will support the Senior Director of Research and New Program Development in his/her effort to:
• Seek ongoing input from K12 departments, subsidiaries, and partners, to determine the need for resources outside K12 to enhance all K12 business lines
• Research and identify government (federal, state and local) and private (commercial and philanthropic) resource opportunities and the associated application processes (e.g., RFP, RFQ, RFA, bid, etc.)
• Inform K12 departments, subsidiaries, and appropriate K12 partners of identified opportunities which match corporate or partners’ needs
• Review and analyze the potential opportunities and their application process(es) to understand the business and technical issues involved and advise on the ability of the applicant to fulfill the requirements
• Coordinate all activities with K12’s Education Advisory Council
• Initiate and/or develop partnerships with organizations, consultants, commercial entities, etc. as needed
• Identify grant seekers and writers willing to work on a commission basis

Requirements:

• Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills including analytical, verbal, written, listening and presentationboth face-to-face and in the virtual environment • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Excellent writing skills, both original and the ability to incorporate information from a variety of subject matter experts and other sources into a cohesive proposal • Minimum of 3 years successful experience in seeking and acquiring resources from government and private sources • Strong skills in project management, including • the ability to perform at a high level while balancing multiple projects with variable priorities; • the ability to coordinate a myriad of people to contribute from their expertise to the ultimate goal; and • the ability to meet deadlines • Flexibility and adaptability with a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate changing responsibilities of this position and the shifting priorities of a growing company • Ability to research and acquire information necessary for a successful proposal • Ability to establish and/or develop public and private sector partnerships needed for each proposal • Familiarity with current software and hardware technology and the ability to adopt and use new technology • Experience using the Internet as a research tool and a means to submit proposals • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat • Experience with layout and graphic presentation
