Analyst-Sovereigns, Fitch Ratings recruitment
You will be expected to establish a working relationship with relevant officials in central banks and government so that you are able to maintain and regularly update country economic databases and forecasts, organise and participate in annual rating missions and prepare recommendations, supporting research and presentations to the Sovereign Rating Committee on those sovereign governments where you are the primary analyst.. You will typically also provide support to more senior colleagues on the ratings of a further three to four sovereign governments as a ‘secondary analyst’ as well as provide general assistance, (such as researching and preparing presentations), to the regional team head as well as the head of the EMEA group as a whole.
Best efforts are made to rotate Analysts through the various regional EMEA teams to allow you to gain breadth and depth of experience across a range of countries and a wide spectrum of sovereign ratings. Depending on previous experience, the initial posting (typically around 2 years) will likely be with either the Middle East and Africa or Western European team.
• Ability to demonstrate a good appreciation of macroeconomics and an interest and awareness of international and political affairs, ideally underpinned by at least a first degree in Economics or a related discipline
• Experience of country risk analysis and/or applied economics gained from within an international institution, finance ministry, central bank, private research or financial institution is advantageous.
• Excellent numerical skills and be proficient in Excel and Word.
• In addition to fluent spoken and written English, working level competence in other languages would be advantageous though not essential.
Additionally, you must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

You must be able to undertake rigorous quantitative and qualitative economic, financial and political risk analysis,
Communication skills
You should be able to marshal arguments in a coherent and concise manner both orally and in written research; this will include the drafting of press releases. You must be able to actively participate in meetings with senior officials and policy-makers in an effective and professional manner under the direction and guidance of senior colleagues.
Professional
You must be able manage your own time and tasks to meet deadlines with relatively little direct supervision, as well as being able to take the initiative to ensure that sovereign credit research and ratings are appropriate and timely. While taking responsibility for their own portfolio of sovereign ratings and supporting research, you must also be able to share and debate opinions with colleagues in a professional and respectful manner. Ability to work to tight deadlines, and display a strong degree of flexibility to take on additional responsibilities, as required. There is considerable international travel associated with this position (while highly variable, 2 to 4 days out of the office once or twice a month is not uncommon).
