Analyst/Associate, Distressed Debt recruitment
Our client, a top-performing Canadian Private Equity Firm specializing in distressed debt investing, is currently seeking an Analyst and an Associate to join their team in Toronto. Both Analysts and Associates are primarily responsible for analyzing new investment opportunities, assisting in structuring and closing deals, and getting operationally involved in portfolio companies. Responsibilities:
• Deal Screening/Analysis Responsibilities, which include:
o Preliminary and secondary analysis of companies and financial securities.
- Preparation, analysis, and explanations regarding financial information for a given company and related companies within the respective industry.
- Performing valuations of companies using both traditional and proprietary valuation methodologies.
- Running financial modeling and sensitivity analyses on various aspects of target business plans and financial assumptions.
- Conducting periodic, scenario, and real-time analysis of holdings, funds and companies, including, but not limited to, stress-testing, variability measurements, and information rations.
- Assisting in the structuring and negotiation of terms of investments.
• Deal Monitoring: Monitors results of assigned portfolio companies with respect to trends, ratios, and peers
• Special Projects: Assumes such other responsibilities and completes special projects as requested, which contribute to Catalyst’s success in achieving annual and longer-term business goals.
Key Competencies:
- 2-5 years of investment banking, ideally in leverage finance or financial sponsors, at a bulge bracket bank. Experience on the buy-side investing in alternative assets would be ideal.
- High academic standing.
- Superior quantitative capabilities as demonstrated by a track record of successful analytical decision-making.
- Ability to learn quickly; and the self-confidence to operate within an aggressive and intellectually-challenging environment is critical.
- Great creativity, sound judgment, exceptional sensitivity to detail, and able to handle a large workload, often times working long hours.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and communication skills - adept at computer-based financial analysis, cash flow modeling, and forecasting. Works well under tight deadlines, producing work that is error-free.
- Keen intellectual curiosity – consistently takes initiative to grow knowledge and accumulate information.
