Analytical Chemist Job in Birmingham, Midlands UK

We have an opportunity for an Analytical Chemist to join our Analytical Laboratory based in Birmingham, UK. The laboratory provides analytical support for the global business. Equipment in the laboratory includes: FTIR, GC, GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, HPLC, LC/MS/MS and LC/MS-TOF.


You will be responsible for analysing extracts from coatings related to the packaging coatings industry. Previous experience of coatings technology would be an advantage but not essential.

- An analytical chemist is required to develop methods for, and analyse samples using, LC/MS/MS (triple quad). Undertake analytical studies as required, including preparation of samples, carrying out the analysis, and reporting of results
- Work safely and tidily, in compliance with laboratory procedures and systems. Carry out routine laboratory work such as collecting samples and parcels and general housekeeping.
- The analytical chemist will also learn and understand the use of different analytical techniques and methods for the identification and/or characterisation of samples.

- Experience using, maintaining and developing methods for LC/MS-QQQ and liquid chromatography is essential.
- A degree in Chemistry or a closely related subject
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; high standard of report writing
- be able to work independently, planning work in the short and long term, but be part of a team willing to take on other studies within the department as required.
- be computer literate, using Microsoft office and knowledge of chromatography workstations (e.g. MassHunter, Chemstation and Shimadzu software) would be an advantage.
