Our client is a Carbon Trust sponsored start-up company developing cost efficient processes for fuel production from biomass. Since its launch in November 2009 the company RD progress has been driven by expert partner companies and Universities supported by an experienced project management team and industry experts. The proof-of-concept phase is almost concluded and going forward the RD work is now being brought in-house by setting up a dedicated team and facility near Oxford.

For this position they are looking for an Analytical Chemist with strong academic qualifications and previous lab management experience. The previous lab experience must be closely related to oil and gas or biomass/biofuel activities. The candidate must be proficient to perform a variety of analytical procedures according to existing standards such as ASTM. GCMS (qual quant) and CHNO analysis plays an important role and previous experience in these techniques is important. Training and additional support will be available from one of the leading quantitative GCMS labs and the candidate would be expected to travel for training.

Responsibilities for the position are:
- To support designing and setting up of the Analytical Lab
- To support recruiting of additional lab support staff
- To manage the Laboratory with all responsibilities that come with such as role such as: stock and supplier management, waste management, health and safety etc.
- To run and/or supervise a variety of standardised analytical test related to biomass feedstock (moisture content, ash content, etc) and process end-product and intermediaries, such as gas, char and organic liquids (GC, GCMS, CHNO, water content, acid number, density, viscosity, flash point, etc).

Salary in line with experience - circa £35 - £40k
