Summary of Duties: The Analytical Chemist will perform a variety of basic to advanced chemical tests, processes, and procedures, which require the selection, and application of routine to complex chemical technologies. The primary responsibility of this position is routine, non-routine, and method development organic analytical chemistry analyses to support manufacturing. Hands-on experience with a wide variety of analytical instruments is desired. Familiarity with and/or hands-on experience with any of the following is preferred: - Experience with viscosity testing, gravimetric analysis, functional group analysis - Mass Spectrometry and Mass Spectra interpretation - Thermal Analysis techniques (TGA, DSC, and TMA) - Gas or Liquid Chromatography - FTIR - Residual Gas Analysis - Inductively Coupled Plasma Analysis, Laser Ablation-Mass Spec, X-RAY, LECO, Solutions Analysis - Inorganic material identification, purity and concentration verification This position requires a strong desire to perform hands-on analytical analyses (including sample preparation) and an interest in following a technical career path. The successful candidate will have a strong customer-service focus, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers who have limited knowledge of chemistry. A willingness to work either as an independent investigator or as a member of a multi-disciplinary cross-functional team, depending on the nature of the situation; and the ability to generate accurate and precise analytical data, interpret data, prepare formal reports and make formal presentations of results, conclusions and recommendations. A self-starter with the ability to lead a team of technologists and/or other chemists employing strong leadership skills especially when training and developing methods is preferred. An ability to evaluate and implement innovations and technological advances that improve quality, reduce cycle time, improve productivity, and enhance operational surety is necessary. In addition, the successful candidate will perform highly complex calibration and measurement services, recommend changes in calibration procedures to improve services, and solve special measurement problems. The scientist may perform other duties as required and conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established HSE requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment; takes actions necessary to stop work when an unsafe condition or action is identified. Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. - U.S. citizenship in order to obtain security clearance(s). Additional Qualifications: - Masters of Science or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry. - Interest in performing organic analysis or inorganic analysis. - Knowledge, with experience in instrumental analysis including: Physical testing of polymers and prepolymers Gas Chromatography with FID, NPD, EPD, TCS and/or MS detection Thermal analysis Spectroscopy FTIR, UV-Vis ICP, ICP-LA, LA-MS, LECO Analysis - History of applied project management skills. - Ability to lead and actively contribute to teams or work independently. - Experience in the preparation and presentation of analytical information to all levels of stakeholders.
