As Analytics Senior Associate, you'll help the firm to make better, fact-based decisions. To achieve this, you'll manage the data repository that supports the strategic decisions, while participating in the full project life cycle for analytics projects. Your projects include a wide variety of areas, including market analysis (regulatory, competitive, economic, etc.), scenario planning, strategy development and implementation, strategic communications, balanced scorecard development and measurement, and other items of strategic and operational importance to Ernst Young.
- Execute on the "high-end" aspects of analytics projects - such as multivariate regressions, clustering analyses, simulation or complex sampling
- Support analytical efforts for core strategy projects, such as market sizing or visualization of survey data. This support could include: identification of a need; data analysis/synthesis; development and management of a database and data infrastructure
- Carry out analytical workflows with minimal guidance (e.g., format data into usable forms/formats and visuals, and match and prepare data and reports)
- Quickly create clear and effective visual displays of quantitative information
- Using written materials and presentations, explain complex approaches to business executives who may not have analytical backgrounds
- Support the analytical infrastructure, including vendor selection, and approval, renewal and maintenance of installed software
- Experience with key analytics tools (S-Plus, R or SAS), for statistical model development and visualization/reporting
- Experience building predictive models to solve business strategic, operational or marketing problems
- Theoretical statistics knowledge
- Ability to quickly grasp complex business problems, and develop a logical/rational framework for investigating the problem. Capable of identifying key assumptions, proposing and testing hypotheses, and developing creative approaches using quantitative/analytical methods
- Understanding of probability theory for use in decision making, including conditional probability, decision trees, real options, etc. Understanding of sample design and hypothesis testing, and knowledge of multi-variate statistics, such as generalized linear regression models
- Comfortable in a rapidly changing environment, with competing and shifting priorities
- Strong understanding and experience in relational database management, including the design of logical data models, optimization of SQL queries, and working with multiple environments
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team
- A minimum of 2-4 years related experience
- Experience with statistical modeling software, such as S-Plus, R or SAS
- Experience with assembling large volumes of financial or transactional data for analytical purposes, using SQL
- Experience in Access SQL and/or Oracle SQL, including the use of complex joins, nested sub-queries, type conversion and aggregation functions
- Experience identifying and investigating data anomalies, normalizing/rationalizing data and merging datasets from disparate sources
- Bachelor's degree in a technical domain such as IT, Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, or Science; graduate degree in statistics preferred
