The NOOK Cloud team is at the center of this innovation, and has multiple opportunities available at all levels. We're responsible for everything that runs on the servers or the network - a broad canvas of software skill sets, domains of expertise, and data types. Work with an ecosystem of best-of-breed technologies that combine the state of the art NOOK Cloud with award-winning, unique mobile tablet devices, blending web and natively-optimized capabilities highly specialized and tuned to make tomorrow's reading experience a reality today. This is not your father's development shop. You will be working on some seriously cool code!
- Deliver insights to Nook business people that will revolutionize how the book business works
- Design and develop highly reliable and extremely scalable end-to-end cloud data mining and analytics solutions using resilient and robust code and tools
- Develop sophisticated analytics, blending human intelligence, statistics, machine learning, optimization and deep personalization
- Bring deep expertise on distributed computing, map-reduce, dimensional modeling, and modern approaches to "big data"
- Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation.
- Help us make reading more accessible to a whole new generation by developing your ideas in a startup-like atmosphere (with the power of a Fortune 500 company behind you all the way).
- Work on stuff that really makes a difference: reading deeply, connecting readers with authors, engaging users with their social networks to do more than gossip, bringing next-generation reading and content to the next generation, and seeing your innovations come to life for millions of readers, students and educators too.
- Work in a progressive and established environment that rewards problem solving, collaboration and innovation.
- Degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, machine learning or a related field with a statistical or quantitative background. Advanced degrees desired.
- Expertise in large dataset search and analysis models.
- Hadoop, Hive, Mahout, MapReduce, HBase, Cassandra, etc.
- Knowledge of statistical theory.
- Strong database design and development experience. Skilled in writing and optimizing sql code. Experience in implementing NOSQL a plus.
- You thrive in a fast paced work environment and get a rush from delivering important insights that will drive the business.
- You tackle hard problems because you hold yourself to high standards.
- You have an established track record delivering awsome analytics, a strong technical acumen, excellent software architecture skills, great communication skills and a motivation to overachieve.
- You have a love for technology and are generally curious to read, discover and play with new gadgets.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability or potential to provide technical guidance and mentorship to other software engineers.
- Attending or presenting at relevantmeetups is something you enjoy doing in your free time.
