Application & Database Administrator
Key Accountabilities Activities:
A. Planning and Design
- Participate in the business requirements gathering and evaluation for application and database platforms.
- Participate in the capacity planning and design for application and database platforms.
- Participate in the security planning and design for application and database platforms
B. Administration Operations
- Install, configure and test the application and database platforms to meet the business requirements.
- Enforce standards for applications and databases platforms.
- Apply controls to ensure database integrity and security.
- Apply fixes, patches and updates to the application and database software as per the governing policies and standards.
- Administer user access levels and manage access privileges for applications and databases.
- Analyse and resolve application and database platform problems by applying well known troubleshooting methodologies and diagnostic tools.
- Perform change management activities for application and database implementation by establishing appropriate development and production environments.
- Develop and maintain the technical documentation for the implemented application and database platforms.
- Run periodic application and database platform health checks with relevant vendors.
C. Monitoring
- Continuously monitor applications and databases to verify their performance, integrity and, availability resolving performance problems and bottlenecks.
- Produce regular reports on application and database performance and utilization.
D. Availability Management
- Participate in designing appropriate backup and recovery strategies for the applications and databases.
- Perform regular backup activities for applications and databases.
- Repair and recover applications and databases from failures.
E. Project and Vendor Management
- Participate in definition of project scope, timeline, resources, stakeholders and deliverables.
- Identify appropriate vendors for IT solutions and services in the marketplace.
- Participate in the technical evaluation of vendor proposals related to application and database platforms.
- Participate in the negotiation and finalization of vendor contracts.
Specific Requirements:
- Administration of Oracle and SQL databases.
- Administration of Microsoft SharePoint, CRM, .Net Applications and Frameworks.
- Administration of Windows and UNIX / Linux Servers.
- Application and database administration and monitoring tools.
- Wide knowledge in managing applications and database platforms, design concepts, change management concepts and project management.
- Professional training / certification in managing application and database platforms.
