The Team

Information Systems, Development and Governance (IDG) is an integral part of thetrainline, delivering application and website development projects and operational running of systems that are crucial to the commercial success of our business and our customers.

Purpose of the Role

To provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support of our retailing and fulfillment systems across production and test environments, with a distributed team in the UK and India, using the most appropriate tools and techniques.

We are currently using Windows 2003 / 2008, SQL Server 2005, Oracle 9i, C#, Visual Studio 2008, .Net 3.5, WCF, NHibernate, MVC, various other standard design patterns. Enterprise Cruise for automated builds and one touch deployment. SOAP UI, FitNesse and NUnit for testing. MOM, TOPAZ, BMC Patrol for monitoring.

The support team also provides feedback to the development teams on required enhancements and fixes, working closely with the BA’s and QA’s to ensure our regular release cycles include continuous improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide application support to retailing and fulfillment systems, including business as usual changes and investigating the issues to identify the root cause.
• Provide support to testing in production and deployment environments.
• Coordinate the resolution of performance issues with internal teams.

The Candidate

• Will have a degree in computer systems / software development.
• Will be able to make pragmatic decisions to ensure systems are up and running but will be constantly looking to identify root causes to on-going issues.
• Will be able to offer and work with the strong opinions and ideas of other staff and mentor others to contribute at a similar level of effectiveness.
• Will be able to demonstrate good business and technical communication skills, working with distributed support teams in the UK and India.
• Will be motivated by working in an environment with an impressive technical library and as part of a technically capable and dedicated team.
• Will be familiar with both Web and Windows applications.

Technical experience (desirable)

• Windows 2003 and Windows 2008
• C# .NET 3.5
• Relational database technologies – SQL Server and or Oracle
• Server monitoring tools SCOM, TOPAZ, BMC Patrol
