Alexander Black Recruitment is urgently looking for a Linux Sys Admin Application Support Engineer to join our high profile client.
Our client is a one of the world’s biggest and best known financial exchanges.
As a System Administrator you will be responsible for the installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of all systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. You will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure team. In real terms you support internal and external users with some app support some projects and generally much into anything in the Linux stack. The team is strong and easy to get on with. If you are looking to gain some exposure to kernel tuning and latency reduction you are in the right place.
Your main responsibilities will be to ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures run a smooth and unproblematic infrastructure. You will also perform light programming such as scripting for automated tasks.
You will assist with projects to enhance solutions around technical issues, providing a good insight in the current infrastructure, future initiations and planning phases around the project. These activities include a full understanding of the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support. This position requires close collaboration with their software engineers in an effort to best align technical solutions with the schedules and analytic needs of various strategies.
The Linux Sys Admin App Support Engineer will be responsible for:
- Application installation, management, troubleshooting and monitoring
- Perform Linux administration tasks – advanced command line usage
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all services, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups and batch processing
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary
Linux Sys Admins MUST have:
- Linux/Unix operating systems
- Advanced Scripting experience (Perl, Bash, Java, ..)
- Strong Linux CLI
- Solid understanding of ITIL methodologies
- Networking protocols such as TCP/IP networking routing
- Knowledge of VMWare in VMware server, VMware virtual infrastructure and virtual infrastructure related knowledge
- Ideally Hardware such as: IBM / HP / Dell server and storage
- Understanding of the full SDLC and experience in working in development projects
