Application Support Specialist – Equities recruitment
This role is within the Equities and Research Technology department that provides systems development, implementation and support services for the Equity, Investment Services and Real Estate asset classes. This team supports Fund Managers, Research Analysts, Traders and supporting groups across Europe.
Based in London, and working as part of the Equity and Research Technology production services team, you will be required to support a wide range of global and regional applications, utilised by the European investment management community. Applications include both vendor and proprietary applications. The team also supports a range of data feeds including benchmarks and market data feeds.
This role is one of a “hands-on” application support position.
The application support team are responsible for all second line application support issues for the equity business functions. In addition, the team are responsible for production release testing, supporting disaster recovery testing, application service requests, some application configuration, and assisting with application monitoring alerts and integration testing application issue resolution. The team are available during the working hours of their end users and in addition provide out of hours support for production release testing, which can be either during UK evenings or weekends.
This role requires a high level of customer interaction and as such requires a confident individual who can effectively liaise with users at a wide range of levels.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Investigating equity and real estate application issues and engaging internal teams and/or third party vendors as appropriate to ensure resolution is reached
- Analysis and resolution of data issues
- Working with Infrastructure functions to troubleshoot performance issues
- Production release testing
- Investigation of application monitoring alerts
- Integration testing application issue resolution
- Fulfillment of service requests, for example the creation, modification and maintenance of user reports
- End user application training
- Ensuring the smooth transitions of applications into the production environment
- Problem tracking and resolution
- Ensuring all issues are seen through to resolution and ensuring timely and effective update to business users
You will need to be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Proven application support experience in an Asset Management organisation, particularly within the Equity asset class
- Demonstrable experience of application support of proprietary applications
- Demonstrable experience of application support of front office vendor applications and market data feeds (Bloomberg, Datastream, Sophis, Fact Set, etc.)
- Approachable and flexible team-worker
- Logical troubleshooting of application problems and good attention to detail
- Good general technical understanding of systems and application architecture (databases, middleware, terminal servers, IP connectivity, etc.)
- VBA and macro creation skills
- Ability to deal with challenging business stakeholders, with the ability to take ownership of issues and work through the issues to conclusion
- Ability to analyse complex problems in a structured manner whilst working under pressure
- Ability to rapidly learn new applications and technologies
- Desire to build relationships with key business stakeholders
- SQL querying skills
- VMWare / VDI Platform experience
- Linux/Unix Knowledge
- Extensive Office XP/2007 knowledge
- Experience of incident and problem tracking tools
- VB scripting would be an advantage
- FIX troubleshooting
- HP Quick Test professional experience
- Senior Desktop Support experience highly desirable
