Applications Architect, checkpoint 2 - Java

Contract: 14 months

 

The Applications Architect will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following

activities and deliverables:

 

·         Participate as a Application / Solution architect in multiple projects

·         Translate requirements into Application Architecture artefacts, compliant with the OPS Enterprise

·         Architecture methodology

·         Analyze business and system requirements and appropriately translate them into system design

·         Lead the Enterprise Architecture review process, by directing and developing conceptual, logical and physical artefacts

·         Ensure the project artefacts alignment with the Enterprise Architecture

·         Identify harmonization and reusability opportunities throughout the developed artefacts

·         Provide support to the systems development teams to help translating the logical architecture into physical architecture

·         Create the appropriate models in PowerDesigner, according to the RUSMOD established

standards

·         Assist the Chief Architect and project managers in planning and effort estimates as required

·         Plan and perform systems modeling activities, including collecting and analyzing information

pertinent to application and technology architecture to identify system requirements

·         Consult with stakeholders and other project team members on specific system elements to

provide solution design and delivery approach that is consistent with other architecture domains and delivery streams, and meets client needs

·         Plan, manage and coordinate the effective translation of client business requirements into

systems models

·         Participate in the walkthroughs, focus group workshops and meetings for each project phase and milestone to review the artifacts produced

·         Assess, define and recommend on the structure, standards, and relationships between suites of

sub-projects and applications, including the identification of common re-useable services and

components, the organization and layering of software and the determination of interfaces

·         Identify, analyze, evaluate and resolve any problems, issues and concerns, including clarification

of overall business function, services, rules and processes; security and privacy issues, service

delivery concerns, and anticipated technology trends

·         Support privacy impact assessment and threat and risk assessment activities, including

preparation of necessary input information, participation in assessment workshops, reviewing

assessment reports, and providing recommendations for risk mitigation and action plans

·         Support conceptual and logical data modeling activities, including preparation walk through of

necessary input information and reviewing data model reports.

·         Prepare RFP submissions for acquiring third party solutions and evaluate responses

·         Liaise with other project teams as necessary to address cross-project interdependencies

 

Mandatory Skills

·         Extensive experience working the Ministry gating process, checkpoints 2, 3

·         Demonstrated Experience in architecting solutions for the modernization of large complex multiplatform multi-tier Information Technology Systems.

·         Object-Oriented Analysis Design, modeling and development experience with N-tier applications, interfaces, middleware and gateways

·         Experience with integrating and customizing Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) solution, business rules extraction, service integration, and developing interfaces that conform to OPS standards

·         Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts, practices, standards and

approach; Service-Oriented Analysis and Design (SOAD) methodologies; service-oriented

modeling, security, and infrastructure deployment including Enterprise Service Bus

·          Experience working in a complex environment using Java/JEE, Oracle RDBMS, integration with

Mainframe/MVS, IMS DB/DC, DB2.

·         Thorough understanding of Zachman Framework; Enterprise Architecture guidelines, processes

and methods; architecture governance process including checkpoint reviews; security and privacy issues, policies and best practices; multi-tier architectures; component based models; technical reference models; and design patterns

·         Proven ability in completing large, complex assignments of this nature, including developing

architecture for business transformation and business process re-engineering initiatives

·         Proven track record of consistently producing results of the highest quality and standard while

meeting strict deadlines and coordinating multiple tasks with competing priorities

 

Desirable Skills

 

·         Experience in guiding and assisting architectural planning, design and development of artefacts

according to the Ontario Public Service (OPS)-approved methods and standards

·         Knowledge of architectural frameworks and standards (TOGAF, ITIL, ZACHMAN)

·         Experience in supporting the architecture governance process for the endorsement and approval of the checkpoints required of the gateway review, including all mandatory and optional artefacts

and deliverables at the conceptual, logical and physical levels

·         Experience working part of an Enterprise Architecture team, in a functional or matrix organization, collaborating with other domain architects and other functional teams to deliver multiple highly inter-dependent projects, with conflicting priorities

·         Demonstrated experience in the modernization of large complex multi-platform, multi-tier

Information Technology Systems.

·         Experience working in programs consisting of multiple highly inter-dependent projects.

·         Hands-on experience with PowerDesigner or a similar modelling tool

·         Experience interacting and guiding internal and external system integration teams
