Reporting directly to the Manger of Applications Professional Services, the Applications Engineer is responsible for providing world-class SEM and dual beam process engineering at customer sites worldwide. This position owns process development and other technical deliverables at the customer site. The Applications Engineer is the primary representative of the NanoPort at the customer site and delivers process matching, Best Practice Document customization to customer-specific processes, writing production recipes and running qualification experiments to drive the use of FEI’s tools in production.

Specific deliverables associated with this position include:

·         Customize Best Practice Documents to meet the customer's specific product

·         Guide the customer in writing production recipes and qualification experiments to drive the production use of FEI's tools

·         Act as a primary communication conduit to the factory by reporting engineering and production information from the customer to FEI.

·         Troubleshoot and report software and hardware issues and escalate as necessary. -Provide feedback to engineering on system performance, features and problems.

·         Support the market division by assisting with the Factory Acceptance Tests at FEI when needed.

·         Support the market division by assisting with the Customer Acceptance Tests (CAT), and initiation/stabilization phases of tool installs at customer sites.

·         Act as the owner of process development and other technical deliverables at the customer site.

·         Conceive, plan, and conduct experimental research to advance applications knowledge as applied to use of FEI systems for Electronics markets.

·         Assist in development of customer training classes for customers both in Hillsboro and in the field.

·         Recommend and advise on direction for potential applications consistent with customer requirements and technical feasibility.

·         Provide technical support to SSD, RD, Manufacturing, Customer Service and other departments as required.

Requirements:

·         Master's degree in Material Science, Physics, or Chemistry with a strong academic background. -3 years of hands-on experience with SEM, FIB, small and large dual-beam electron microscopes. 

·         Experience with TEM or Metrology is a plus.

·         Understanding of a commercial organization

·         Strong work ethic and capacity to work independently as well as in teams

·         Strong communicative and inter-cultural skills (verbal and non-verbal) -Ability and desire to travel internationally on a frequent basis

·         Published articles and papers a plus.
