Praxair Surface Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Praxair, is a world leader in surface enhancement, and has an outstanding opportunity for an Applications Engineer in Rancho Dominguez, CA.
The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for managing growth projects and process improvements. Will work closely with Plant Manager, Sales, Production Managers, Quality Managers, and HSE. Work with plant manager to create timelines for growth projects and ensure milestones are met. Determine capital equipment needs and secure quotes for equipment installation. This individual will report to the plant Manager and will be responsible for engineering support for the facility. Typical duties may include, but not limited to the following:
• Works on new product introductions.
• Provide cost estimates to determine profitability of jobs.
• Ensures successful completion of assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
• Prepare appropriate documentation, reports and summaries to communicate project progress or results.
• Interfaces with internal and external customers/suppliers.
• Actively participates in project team meetings and project decisions.
• Lead applications development activities necessary to provide services/products to customers.
• Quickly learns and applies new concepts, skills and knowledge to assigned tasks.
• Provides technical leadership on new product introductions.
• Organizes and creates documentation necessary for new applications, including job instructions, job routers, job safety analyses, and standard operating procedures. Also responsible for interpretation of customer specification and blueprints associated with new and existing applications.
• Works with Quality organization to complete first article inspection and achieve acceptable first pass yield.
• Maintains an expertise with the process equipment in operations.
• Reviews customer purchase orders, specification and prints to ensure processing meets all requirements.
• Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures
• Identify, prioritize and implement process improvement methods, utilizing Lean principles and interacts with entire supply chain (supplier to customer).
To qualify, you must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering with 3+ years experience. Proven ability to combine theoretical training with practical experience in a "hands-on" environment. Must be able to communicate ideas orally and in writing as incumbent participates in manufacturing teams and interacts with all levels of company personnel as well as with contractors, suppliers, and customers and be a self-starter able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. Personal computer proficiency, business administration know-how, and a working knowledge of quality control systems, and processes/equipment typically used in a coatings-manufacturing environment are also required. Experience and knowledge of Aviation and Industrial Gas Turbine Industry preferred. Robot programming skills and LEAN, Six Sigma trained; green belt or black belt is a plus.
