While adhering to standard safety and quality operational policies and procedures, the primary functions of the Apprentice Millwright are:
- Conduct regular general and preventative maintenance on all equipment within the facility.
- Work with outside contractors on occasion.
- Participate in the installation, troubleshooting and repair of equipment and systems.
- Operate and work with an aerial bucket, aerial lift, boom-truck, forklift, or related equipment as needed.
- Examine existing equipment and make recommendations for new equipment, repairs and/or modifications.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work on all equipment within the facility.
- Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisition materials as required.
- Plan and layout work assignments from simple blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions.
- Fabricate jigs, guards and miscellaneous equipment from a variety of materials.
- Understand thoroughly the operation of all equipment and systems within the facility.
- Work with fellow employees as required.
- Understand national, provincial and local codes as they affect repair and maintenance, safety, equipment and structures.
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety corrective action requests.
Education:
The individual must have completed grade 12 with a minimum of 2 years experience within the manufacturing industry.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Basic understanding of industrial mechanics and have adequate knowledge of welding, pneumatics, hydraulics and some electrical systems
- Knowledge of basic steel fabrication.
- The ability to think in mathematical and abstract terms.
- The ability to visualize three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings.
- An interest in technical processes.
- Persistence and determination when problem-solving.
- Well-developed communication skills in verbal and in writing.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- The ability to anticipate the effects of change.
- Willing to adhere to safety requirements.
