Aquatic Toxicologist, Senior Job in Calgary T2A7, Alberta Canada
Due to expanding business operations, there is a requirement for a Senior Aquatic Toxicology Scientist. The Senior Aquatic Toxicology Scientist will have a background in aquatic ecosystem health assessment and aquatic toxicology and will work with the environmental effects monitoring (EEM) and aquatic health environmental impact assessment (EIA) teams.
The candidate's responsibilities will include:
- Managing and/or directing projects;
- Supervising, training and mentoring junior and intermediate staff;
- Demonstrating a commitment to team building;
- Liaising with clients and developing business;
- Making presentations and representing clients at meetings;
- Preparing proposals and reports;
- Directing the application of advanced methods/techniques to problem solving and assessments;
- Performing advanced data and statistical analysis;
- Designing and leading EEM Projects for the diamond and metal mining, pulp and paper, and oil and gas sectors; and
- Leading environmental assessment projects for various types of developments including power, mines, oil and gas facilities and pipelines.
The location for this position is Calgary and possibly other Canadian offices.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Excellent technical writing, communication and project management skills;
- Adeptness with statistical analysis;
- Ability to lead aquatic ecosystem health assessments for environmental assessments and EEM programs;
- Degree in environmental toxicology, aquatic biology or a similar field; and
- A minimum of Bachelor of Science degree plus 10 years experience or Masters of Science degree or Ph.D. plus 7 years experience.
Desirable skills include the following:
- Experience assessing the health of fish populations;
- Strong understanding of fish biology;
- Experience with toxicology in aquatic environments;
- Experience assessing the fate and effects of metal and organic contaminants in the environment;
- Experience assessing the effects of eutrophication;
- Experience managing large-scale projects;
- Strong leadership, mentoring and teambuilding skills;
- Consulting industry experience with extensive knowledge of aquatic biology, environmental assessments and EEM-type studies.
