Here at the Y, we are working hard to reduce this alarming statistic. Our SAFE STARTÒ PROGRAM is an innovative water safety program that teaches children life-saving techniques. You can play a vital role in helping YOUR Y take on this avoidable cause of childhood death and injury by becoming a Safe StartÒ Instructor.

The Safe StartÒ Instructor Training Program is an 8 week process comprised of in-water training, video review and a significant amount of academic study. Our Master Instructors are uniquely trained to help mentor Student Instructors throughout the learning process. As a result the trained Student Instructor is competent, confident, knowledgeable and ready to replicate the outstanding results witnessed by Safe StartÒ families everyday.

Job duties for trained Student Instructors:

 

§          Provide individualized instruction in survival swimming techniques to Safe StartÒ participants

§          Instruct Safe StartÒ lessons in accordance with the YMCA of Central Florida and Safe Start® guidelines and training protocols

§          Ensure all safety protocols and Infant Swimming ResourceÒ (ISR) prompts and procedures are utilized

§          Maintain accurate records for Safe StartÒ participants as required

§          Assist Safe StartÒ and YMCA Family Centers in marketing and public relations events to promote the growth of the Safe StartÒ program
 

 

 

NOTE: All interested instructors will undergo comprehensive instruction and training for 6 – 8 weeks to obtain the necessary skills to perform the essential job functions. Interested instructors must successfully pass the coursework and in water skills test to be considered a Safe StartÒ Instructor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

§          Must be at least 21 years of age

§          High School graduate or equivalent required; AA/AS/BS degree in psychology, physiology or anatomy a plus

§          Previous experience in behavior modification, sensory motor learning or operant conditioning a plus

§          Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required

§          Ability to successfully obtain a Safe StartÒ Instructor certification required

§          Must be able to life 50 lbs

§          Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time, exposed to extreme weather, temperature and wet and/or humid conditions

§          Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

 

PAY SCALE

$17.00 - $21.00 per hour
