Area Manger (Band 8c) Adult Mental Health – South West

Hays Healthcare, working alongside a prominent NHS Trust in the South West, are looking to recruit an Area Manager (Adult Mental Health Band 8c) for a permanent position based in the South West.

Main Purpose of Role:

The successful candidate will primarily focus on leading the development and delivery of the specialist mental health service in the defined geographical area, as part of a wider system of integrated care, which meets the requirements of service users, commissioners and partners/stakeholders. This will be done in partnership with the Clinical service Director.

To take a strategic approach to the development of effective and efficient partnerships across and beyond the trust, with a shared goal to embed specialist mental health care within mainstream service pathways. Fundamentally this will require close working beyond traditional boundaries, striving for innovation and improvement in an environment of tough external challenge and scrutiny.

Reporting directly to the Divisional Director for Adult mental Health, the post holder will be accountable for providing strategic leadership to staff employed by or working in partnership with the trust. Together with the Clinical Service Director, the post holder will, alongside those who jointly commission and provide health and social care services, define and set the strategic direction of the area managed.
The post holder will provide high-level leadership which accords with the Trust’s vision and values.

Person Specification:

Below is a synopsis of the skills, abilities, experience and qualifications that prospective applicants should consider before applying:

· Masters level qualification or the ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge.
· Graduate/professional management qualification.
· Highly developed leadership, influencing and negotiating skills to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams.
· Ability to think and act strategically.
· Adopts a systematic approach to problem solving using varied sources of information.
· Ability to analyse numerical and written data, assessing risks and options.
· Demonstrable influencing, negotiation and presentation skills.
· Capable of large scale change management programmes with multiple project streams in a complex NHS environment.
· High-level budget management skills.
· Managing time and prioritising in a pressurised environment.
· Sound understanding of the Mental Health arena, challenges and opportunities in the changing external environment of NHS provision.
· At least five years of significant proven leadership experience managing complex and multiple clinical services in a healthcare setting.
· Evidence of leading and implementing change/innovation in an area relevant to experience.
· Ambitious, hardworking, creative, positive, sensitive, enthusiastic, open-minded, resourceful.
· Available to participate in Divisional on-call rota.
· Independently mobile
· Full, clean driving licence.
