AREA Manager

SUMMARY Responsible for the supervision of the manufacturing processes including the activities of the Paint, Assembly, Welding and Fabrication Departments. This position is responsible for continuous and efficient production in desired quantity and quality. Emphasis is placed on maintaining a safe work environment and continually developing the skills of employees in the business unit. Supervises production supervisors, shop floor schedulers, Engineering Liaison and I.E. support. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES QUALITY 1. Monitor quality to ensure total customer satisfaction. 2. Identify areas for continuously improving work methods, productivity and working conditions which directly contribute to improved quality and reduced costs. 3. Take immediate corrective action where needed to satisfy quality standards. PRODUCTION 1. Develop short and long range plans to support production goals and establish methods to track such progress. 2. Develop unit budgets and assist departmental supervisors in operating within established guidelines and standards. 3. Direct cost control programs to continually improve the profitable performance of the business unit. 4. Develop and recommend capital appropriations for the purchase of new equipment to reduce manufacturing costs and maintain an even flow of finished products. 5. Work with other unit managers and departments to maintain a balanced flow of materials to support a JIT environment. 6. Responsible for inventory accuracy and assist in the training of all employees in the proper use and maintenance of work center inventory locations. 7. Monitor departmental capacity to ensure proper resources are in place to meet production requirements. 8. Resolve overloaded work areas and keep the plant manager informed of adherence to schedules. EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT 1. Participate in the establishment and administration of company policies and procedures to the extent necessary to supervise effectively the work of a business unit. 2. Establish performance measurements to monitor productivity improvements and daily process time. 3. Ensure that the compensation programs are properly administered and communicated. 4. Review and consider employee problems when presented and handle them promptly. 5. Responsible for continuing education of subordinates in technical skills required to fulfill the job requirements and allow for employee career development. 6. Maintain a cross-trained workforce with backup for all functions. SAFETY 1. Take a proactive role in promoting safe practices in the workplace through job design and employee awareness. 2. Obtain employee involvement in maintaining workplace standards and practices that contribute to safety. 3. Monitor the safety trends and conditions within the business unit and take corrective action as may be required. 4. Enforce all safety, fire and housekeeping procedures. 5. Responsible for all aspects of safety within assigned area per the policy, Managerial Accountability for Safety.
