The Area Planning Manager ensures business needs are met by balancing service, capacity, and profitability. Additional responsibilities include coaching and mentoring the Driver Business Leaders to maximize loaded miles; and developing and communicating the daily market needs that will support the global business strategy in a geographic area. The Area Planning Manager will be aligned with a Market Manager and will interface with Sales, Customer Service, Box Team, and Operations teams to ensure successful execution of the regional daily operations plan. RESPONSIBILITIES: Define daily plan to include; shift priority, reserve capacity (same day), SGIS notes, load and stage, must move loads, etc. Continually assess current market conditions and performance, and adjust plan accordingly. Communicate and execute market plan and provide daily execution direction to Driver Business Leaders, Customer Service, Box Team, and Sales. Responsible for the continuity of the daily plan throughout shifts. Communicate plan to support shifts (CS, Dispatch, Ops). Manage the operations plan within a geographic market to include balancing freight flows, loaded miles, and daily solicitation needs. Lead daily meetings for demand generation execution (conference calls). Work with Driver Business Leaders to reserve capacity for same day capacity needs. Coach and mentor Customer Service Managers on appointment setting and recommend solutions based on capacity availability. Coach and mentor Driver Business Leaders to maximize loaded miles on all trucks. Have an intimate understanding of all customer and unique needs within the market. Ensure that service to the customers within their region is maintained and pro-active communication for daily service gaps that arise. Work with Customer Service on improvement plans. Communicate chronic service issues to Market Manager for assistance in long term resolution. Work with Driver Business Leaders within geography to define gaps in volume, and capacity shortfalls required to ensure successful execution of the geographic market plan. Ensure that all TL capacity types are considered and supported in every phase of decision today as a function of providing service. Provide direction to load save freight as necessary. Will be the "tie breaker" regarding commitments and set prioritization of daily market (musts). Provide feedback to the Market Manager/General Manager on customer issues that impact profitability. Responsible for shift decisions within their region. Responsible for same day load acceptance and same day spot pricing decisions. Accountable for the overall success of established key factor metrics for the area to include load volume, service, empty miles and profitability. EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred 2 - 4 years customer service, planning, project management or dispatch experience is desired Must be a team player and demonstrate the ability to coordinate with multiple associates Strong coaching skills Self Managed; ability to perform job requirements with minimal supervision Proven ability to evaluate a situation and create solutions utilizing all available resources Ability to manage multiple priorities at once and make balanced choices Influence others - experience leading others without authority Possess a high level of energy and initiative; strong work ethic. A self starter, motivated to achieve Ability to work full time Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 1st shift (45 hours - 12 hour shifts)
