Full Job Description
Reporting to the Area Underwriting Manager the Area Underwriter`s role will be that of a subject matter expert and will be responsible for the underwriting of complex individual risks and management of the Regional portfolio to develop profitable business. As such, you will be responsible for the Profit and Loss Account for the Liability - Casualty book of business in the Maidstone branch. You will also line manage between 2- 5 Commercial Underwriters.
Responsibilities include:
- Provision of a high quality technical and commercial underwriting in the rating and acceptance of insurance risks within agreed guidelines authority limits.
- Performing a range of duties such as technical referrals, assisting with technical training and auditing, and the production and distribution of statistical information and other research.
- Working individually and collectively with other team members across Underwriting, Customer Service and Sales teams to provide technical support to add value in Property, Motor or Liability Insurance.
- Provide active support and guidance to the technical and commercial development of more junior underwriters.
- Delivery of outstanding underwriting and customer service to Brokers in your Area.
- Building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop new business and maximise the value of current business on an ongoing basis.
Proven experience in a commercial insurance underwriting role with specific knowledge of the Liability - Casualty class of business.
Strong underwriting management ability.
Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and negotiation skills.
Good analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Experience from within the Maidstone - Kent market ideally, although not essential.
