Asia Head of Operational Risk – Global Banking Group recruitment

 The Head of Operational Risk – Asia will manage Asia’s Operational Risk strategy, framework, risk policies and tools across each business line and support functions operating in Asia in line with Group Risk standards and ensure that the framework is fit for purpose and appropriately balances the business lines vs branch perspective. The incumbent will proactively build / sustain relationships with: Risk Management, the Business and relevant Regulators (HKMA, SFC, OCI, MPFA etc) across Asia. Additionally, the jobholder will maintain robust operational risk reporting for numerous stakeholders and manage an effective Asia Operational Risk Forum as one of the key vehicles for driving “integration” and energising the broader team. The Head of Operational Risk – Asia will act as a specialist adviser to the CEO (Asia and Hong Kong) CRO on operational risk issues in relation to new products, major projects / initiatives, business continuity crisis management, operational risk initiatives, model risk, fraud risk, outsourcing and other related operational risk ‘subject matter’ and act as the primary focal point across Asia for delivering assurance, reporting, escalation re any operational risk issues that may arise and facilitating resolution. The incumbent will work closely with respective Group colleagues to support the Operational Risk requirements and other relevant initiatives and collaborate and work effectively with all other Asia risk functions, primarily Compliance, Market risk, Non-Traded Market Risk, Credit risk, Project Risk and Legal etc in the implementation of operational risk and other risk initiatives. The jobholder will ensure that the Asian Business units are aware of and comply with all mandatory regulatory or Group rules and guidelines and ensure team members comply with all aspects of policy, procedure and statutory requirements relevant to their existing work responsibilities, duties, work practices and conduct. There is also responsibility for monitoring and advising on security and travel risk throughout the region, and working with external security risk advisors, as needed, to ensure we meet our duty of care to our people.

The successful candidate will be a degree holder with at least 8 years operational risk experience with strong Treasury, Institutional Banking, Wholesale Banking and Trade Finance knowledge and/or experience, ideally with experience managing a regional team of operational risk professionals. Candidates must have the ability to be sensitive to cross-cultural issues, have a practical understanding of Asia’s key business activities and a comprehensive understanding of operational risk principles. Applicants are required to possess excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication and negotiation skills and ability to network and successfully engage and influence senior business unit representatives and ‘Heads of’ and an ability to coach and develop direct and matrix reports.
