A great opportunity for an accomplished Investment Strategist has arisen to join our Group Chief Investment Office (CIO) in Sydney. Reporting to the Head of Investments, you will be joining a dynamic, experienced and high performing team in a diverse and varied role where you will influence and drive changes to the Group's investment strategy and arrangements.
This role provides high level visibility as you will work with a range of internal and external stakeholders including the Finance and Risk teams within the various lines of business, the Asset Liability Committees (ALCOs), investment committees, senior business leaders and external fund managers.
Your primary responsibility will be to enhance the Group's finances through the provision of investment advice based on quantitative and qualitative analysis covering strategic asset allocation. There will also be the opportunity to provide advice in relation to tactical asset allocation, investment mandate limits and the implementation of a range of investment strategies.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Increasing the understanding of investment issues and the impact of investment markets on the value of the Groups assets and liabilities
- Developing investment strategies that take into consideration the impact of investment markets on the value of the Group's liabilities
- Contributing to the development and management of tools used to provide investment advice including risk and capital models
- Providing support in relation to investment reporting and investment forecasting
- Ensuring Suncorp leverages off the capabilities of investment partners
Key characteristics will include:
- Demonstrated advanced problem solving and analytical ability with the communication and relationship management skills to challenge, influence and negotiate desired outcomes with senior stakeholders
- Strong quantitative analytical skills with advanced Excel and modelling skills and experience using investment risk and asset/liability management tools
- Demonstrated strong insight and understanding of investment strategies suitable for insurers, investment instruments, portfolio management, asset classes, investment management processes and investment reporting
- Minimum of 5 years specialist experience in investment consulting/advisory with a prominent financial consulting or asset management firm plus a background in financial services/investment management
- Highly self motivated but with the desire to work collaboratively and actively contribute within a small specialist team to achieve targeted results
You will also possess tertiary qualifications in Actuarial, Economics, Commerce, Finance or other relevant disciplines and will have a thorough understanding of investment markets and strategies. With a strong commercial acumen, you will have the ability to synthesise information and formulate investment recommendations. Very strong communication and negotiation skills will also be required.
