Role Description
Senior Technology Director for Equity Portfolio Management reporting to the Equity Chief Business Technologist.
This is a senior VP/ED role
Key responsibilities include:
- Line management of existing Equity Technology Product Owners focusing on Portfolio Management initiatives and Small enhancements. The team delivers technology solutions to Equity Portfolio Managers, Compliance, Research and indirectly Traders, including level 2 and Level 3 support.
- The existing Technology team follows an agile software implementation methodology. The Senior Product Owner will:
- Help define the product strategy based on business requirements and own knowledge of investment management technology solutions
- Ensure that the product strategy is clear and well communicated to stakeholders and team members
- Maintain a technology roadmap to achieve this strategy; budget and resource the team to deliver against this strategy
- Ensure that the agile processes are running correctly, that the product backlog is well prioritised
- Overall technology delivery responsibility to the business.
- Direct focus on new products/ capabilities: Research, Quant, Performance Attribution: creating a vision and technology roadmap for these new capabilities
- Close liaison with other regions (US and Asia) for global coordination.
- Drive the team towards additional technology innovation, efficiency and best practices including automated testing
- Help deliver the infrastructure and Technical architecture agenda
- Provide input into, and influence, the Technical, Infrastructure and Application Architectures
- Co-ordinate budget planning and forecast cycles on Clarity, the budgeting and reporting tool.
- Oversight of key global control initiatives for own area (e.g. 3 rd Party Oversight, Total Cost of Ownership, Environment simplifications, Access Control etc).
Qualifications:
Key Skills:
Technology
- Extensive experience in Technology industry, ideally investment management and ideally within Front Office Technology
- Strong technical skills, ability to provide direction to a technology team
- Technical fluency in various technologies and architectures; able to critic, and provide input in, technical architecture/design documents
- Extensive experience of working on agile or scrum projects and leading the implementation of agile processes.
- Previous experience of structured analysis toolsets, and automated testing processes and tools
Investment Management
- Background in financial services
- Very good understanding of Investment Management front office business processes (portfolio management, compliance, trading)
- Strong functional understanding of equities and equity derivatives; appreciation of equity and derivatives data requirements
Project / Delivery / Stakeholder Management
- Prior experience as a lead Business Architect, Product Owner or Project Manager on large scale projects.
- Track record of successful project delivery gained at either a top consultancy firm or a leading investment bank / asset manager.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong interest in financial management, budgeting and project management principles.
- Process and control focused.
- Engagement with Senior stakeholders
Line Management
- Prior line-management experience. Interest in people development and coaching.

- Maturity and experience; ability to gain respect from, and line-manage, a 10-strong team
- Ability to lead, motivate and up-skill team
- Self-assured and personable attitude : ability to face off to the business, listen to the business, influence, handle difficult messages and resolve conflicts.
- Good inter-personal and communication skills, good relationship building at all levels of the hierarchy
- Strong team player
