Job Description:
The Quantitative Analyst is part of our Analytical Solutions team within the Client Solutions Group (CS). We bring expertise in the industries our clients operate in to partner with them and define their investment goals and create investment solutions to achieve those goals. We work closely with the portfolio management teams to customize our product offerings for client specific objectives. CS contains the following areas of expertise:
Industry Solutions, industry specialists with overall knowledge of CS services and AWM products
Liability Driven Solutions, provide advice on investment strategy in a liability context
Portfolio Solutions, focus on SAA and multi-asset class solutions
Capital Efficient Solutions, brings expertise in accounting, regulation, capital and tax matters
Analytical Solutions, owners of our quantitative tools including design and construction. Also perform client studies in collaboration with other CS functions
The Quantitative Analyst will utilize technical and financial expertise to work with clients to understand their investment objectives and to design and develop both standardized and customized investment solutions. In particular, this position will undertake directed analyses to develop new ways to analyze the risk and return associated with new products and client portfolios, and to maintain and enhance existing tools. This includes research, development and maintenance of portfolio optimization tools, quantitative hedging tools, and integration of liabilities into these optimization tools.
For example, typical projects could involve validating, coding and integrating an advanced analytical technique into an existing Matlab program or developing a GUI to expand or ease the utilization of some particular analysis. While the candidate will work primarily with internal AWM partners, there may be occasions where direct client or prospect interaction is needed.
Requirements:
Undergraduate degree in Economics, Econometrics, Finance, Statistics, Applied Math, Physics preferred
Graduate degree in a quantitative discipline a plus
Investments and/or capital markets experience a plus
Insurance or pension industry experience is a plus
Strong programming skills and experience coding in Matlab as well as VBA and/or C#/C++
Proficient in database design and development
Experience measuring and applying risk measurement concepts such as Value-at-Risk (VaR), conditional Value at Risk (CVaR)/Expected Shortfall (ES), as well as understanding strengths and weaknesses of different approaches
Financial quantitative experience, including an understanding of portfolio management, optimization techniques, asset-liability management, simulation methodologies, risk management and/or actuarial modeling
Understanding of financial modeling including portfolio management and optimization, ALM, derivative pricing and risk management
Understanding of fixed income and equity instruments, options and other derivatives
General understanding of other asset classes including commodities, real estate, private equity
Strong communication skills, specifically an ability to explain complex technical subjects to a non-technical audience
A motivated self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision to produce accurate, high quality work; detail orientation
Must be very organized, able to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively, capable of multi-tasking while handling varied assignments
Insurance, actuarial, pension and/or liability driven investing experience is a plus
Skills in predictive analytics or data mining techniques are also a plus
