Department Summary:
Fund Accounting is part of Worldwide Security Services forming a component of Treasury and Security Services division of J.P.Morgan. It provides audited investment valuations, accounting and related reporting, such as tax, compliance and performance to its clients. Clients include large industry superannuation funds, investment management unit trusts based in Australia and other locations within Asia Pacific such as New Zealand and Asia. These clients invest in local and international markets (global reach) and in a wide range of investments including equities, fixed interest, cash and liquids, forward foreign exchange, as well as derivative products. Each client has various reporting deadlines including daily, weekly and monthly.
The Fund Accounting unit consists of 14 teams, each headed up by the Account Manager - Fund Accounting, with each team consisting of approximately 4-8 staff members at various levels. (Fund Accountant and Assistant Manager). There are 6 Senior Managers reporting through to the Head of Fund Accounting.
Position Summary:
- Be able to accurately and efficiently review the valuations prepared by the Fund Accountant.
- Be the reference point for technical questions (investments, systems, tax and financial statement) from clients and internal service teams.
- Be able to maintain a successful working relationship with clients (this requires a strong understanding of the client's deliverables and core structure).
- Assist the Manager in the implementation of an effective people management process, including supervising and coaching junior team members, providing open communication through the application of frequent one-on-ones and completion of half-yearly appraisals.
- Assist the Manager in the planning and delivery of client requirements in accordance with the SLA.
- The ability to work as a supervisor within a team environment.
Key Accountabilities / Major Responsibilities:
- Review team deliverables in line with daily, weekly and monthly deadlines and client requirements.
- Planning and co-ordination of team processes to ensure all client deliverable's are met as per SLA.
- Handling staff enquiries - technical system questions on various systems used as well as generic.
- Assist with the client relationship and servicing their requests.
- Assist with managing and coaching junior team members and be instructive in their training and development.
- Be able to identify and lead change with system and process development. Be seen as a leader in respect to efficiency and the the need to pinpoint "hotspots" that lead to "bottlenecks" and be able to enact change.
- Liaise with Relationship Managers and Client Service Managers.
- Good understanding of investment fundamentals. Act as a reference point for both domestic and international funds.

Skills
Experience Knowledge:
- Sufficient systems and technical knowledge of Investment Accounting systems and core Custody systems.
- Strong working knowledge of financial markets and instruments, both domestic and international
- Strong communication skills

Formal Qualifications:
- Tertiary Qualifications
- SIA - highly regarded
- CPA or CA completed or partially completed - highly regarded
- Investment related qualifications
