Assistant Controller (Advisory Services) recruitment
PEAK6 is currently seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to join our Accounting Finance team and support a newly launched Fixed Income focused fund. This position will require you to manage the general ledger for a hedge fund managed by our aggressively growing subsidiary, PEAK6 Advisors LLC. Ideal candidates will possess superior analytical and reconciliation skills, mastery of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and have strong depth in accounting for fixed income and OTC derivative securities. Experience with Advent Geneva and Dynamics GP software preferred. Prior experience in fund accounting and CPA designation is a plus.
Key Skills Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing and reporting processes.
- Perform journal entries and complex account reconciliations including identification and remediation of all issues in compliance with audit requirements.
- Assist the fund CFO in operational and transactional processes impacting the fund, and the financial statements, including closing/reporting, cash, subscriptions and redemptions, intercompany expenses and accounts payable.
- Prepare income statement and balance sheet packages and related comprehensive analysis for variances and trends.
- Participate in the internal and external audit process, as well as investor due diligence, as required.
- Collaborate with teammates and management to identify, design, and implement process improvements and policies for greater efficiency.
- Actively participate in improvements to and recommendations for company outsourced systems impacting financial reporting and processes.
- Communicate with and advise business leaders within your given business unit.
- Ensure that adequate internal financial controls exist in the business to safeguard company assets and limit risk.
- Participate in and lead ad hoc projects as needed.
Job Requirements:
- 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2+ years in a senior role
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensing strongly preferred.
- Experience with Dynamics GP software is preferred
- Experience with Advent Geneva preferred
- Strong analytical ability, including expert level MS Excel skills, and perseverance to solve problems with high attention to detail
- Strong month end close experience
- Ability to professionally interact with employees and management
- Extensive knowledge of general ledgers
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks within an established timeline
- Must be a team player and capable of working in a fast paced environment with a strong commitment to ethics and integrity.
