Assistant Controller (Change Leader) recruitment

The European Mortgage and Restructure Group is part of GE Capital, the business has $32B in assets, with 5,000 employees across UK, Ireland, France, Iberia, Russia, Netherlands and Latvia. EMRG provides financial solutions to retail and commercial customers, from credit cards, personal loans, auto financing and mortgages to investment loans and working capital solutions.

A key member of the Controllership Team that drives excellence throughout GE Capital EMRG addressing concerns and implementing proper processes. The position reports to the Controller for a business with a planned $44MM of net income, $3.7B of volume, and $29B of ENI. The primary focus of the role is to drive change within the platform controllership teams as the businesses are restructured, regulatory reporting is developed and transactions occur. In addition you will be expected to support the Controller on business key initiatives as they arise. It is expected the role will involve up to 50% travel to the EMRG platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

• To be a key member of the EMRG controllership team with a focus on supporting the platforms as they evolve with a mixture of onsite visits and remote support
• Transactions: Provide operational accounting support to platforms involved in significant restructurings, either internal ownership/funding changes or BD related activities. This will involve working closely with technical accounting, treasury tax to understand the transaction and ensuring all necessary controllership tasks are identified and completed (bookings, recasts and on-going systems process changes)
• Regulatory: To work with platform teams to ensure that the required resourcing, systems and processes are in place to deliver accurate and timely reporting. In addition to drive the related simplification and governance projects within the business
• Continuous Improvement: Perform risk assessment of platforms and identify areas that need improvement and HQ support. To have a particular focus on the sub scale platforms providing strategic input and practical assistance
• Core Process improvement: To identify and implement platform level process improvements of the controllership core processes such as SEC reporting, account reconciliations, stat to GAP reconciliations and statutory filings ensuring the latest corporate standards are implemented.
• To drive forward the use of corporate system (SSS, IBS, eTL) wherever possible within the business
• To support the platform financial closing process and ensure prompt closure on any open items that arise
 

Qualifications

• Experienced finance professional with knowledge of Oracle financials, USGAAP and UKGAAP
• Ability to communicate and partner with the business functional leaders
• Commercial acumen to add value and drive change
• Strong process focus and ability to drive change
• Excellent leadership skills and experience of managing large remote teams
