Responsibilities
- Assist in leading and directing the coordination and control of financial accounting functions to review all accounting transactions, oversight of general ledger preparation, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger of the Funds and oversee the preparation of the monthly trial balance for timely financial statement, cash flow projections, investment, and external reporting and timely completion of audits, 5500, and 990s
- Supervise and monitor the performance of Accounting staff; ensure duties are properly performed and employees are working towards common Fund goals
- Oversee accurate and timely accounting processes for the Funds, including accurate and timely posting of expenses and revenues; oversee all financial transactions and effectively maintains the productivity and smooth running of accounting department operations; review all journal entries and set up wire transfers. Ensure all reimbursements between related entities are processed in a timely manner
- Prepare or review daily cash management report and analyzes weekly and monthly cash needs for timely transfer of funds between investments and cash accounts maximizing investment returns and ensuring adequate cash available to process upcoming payments to vendors on a timely basis
- Analyze general ledger accounts and investigate variances; ensure monthly financial information/reporting is accurate; prepare variance analyses for month end reporting on a timely basis
- Perform and coordinate monthly closings and ensure proper allocation of expenses among Funds
- Prepare interim financial statements and required schedules; ensure accuracy of all financial information providing adequate documentation and supporting schedules substantiating all actual and assumptions
- Compile accounting schedules and assist in preparing the annual financial statements, additional required reports and annual Form 5500, Form 990; Interface with internal and external auditors
- Prepare reports and supporting documents for internal and external auditors; ensure Financials reflect true and fair view of the Funds
- Assist with cash flow projections for presentation at quarterly Trustees’ and Investment Committee meetings, and assists the Finance Director in the annual budget process
- Work with Finance and Program Management to provide ad hoc financial reporting for the Trustees as needed
- Inform the CFO on a timely basis of any changes in trend that will have an impact on cash or investments
- Analyze, coordinate, and resolve accounting problems or recommend resolutions as necessary
- Perform additional duties and special projects with meeting strict deadlines as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA and at least 4-5 years experience with Big 4 required
- Minimum of six to eight (6-8) years of progressively accounting experience, including prior Assistant Controller experience with complex not-for-profit audit engagements
- Strong experience using complex general ledger software such as Oracle, SAP, GP and in mapping Financial Statements and other management reports in Forecaster, Hyperion or other reporting and budgeting tool
- Proficiency in MS Word and advanced use of Excel, Access and utilizing complex Accounting and Financial software applications (ORACLE)
- Knowledge of Not-for-Profit and TAFT Hartley Plans reporting; Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Grant and Investment Accounting, investment pricing and valuation of alternative investments and complex cost allocation methods and budgeting and reporting
- Strong management, supervisory and communication skills; excellent critical thinking and analytical capabilities
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Must meet performance standards including attendance and punctuality
