Assistant Corporate Tax Manager
This Corporate Tax Assistant Manager job in Edinburgh, is a challenging role for a hard working high-potential individual to join the Tax Compliance team within the Group Tax function of this large corporate.
Group Tax is a key function within the Finance Community of the business, having responsibility for managing the Group's tax affairs. The group has a wide range of tax payment, deduction and reporting obligations both for its own account but also for its customers and colleagues. Group Tax manages these obligations on behalf of the group, ensuring the tax consequences of all transactions are understood, that the group is in full compliance with all of its statutory obligations.
This role is part of the Tax Compliance team which has specific responsibilities for the group's corporation tax obligations with HM Revenue Customs (HMRC). This team is responsible for the preparation and submission of corporation tax returns and computations, and claims and elections to HMRC. This further requires engagement with and management of key information providers for returns and computations, to ensure that information requirements are understood and met in full, and on a timely basis (and in line with our risk processes, including Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) legislation).
The team also prepare year end provisions for statutory and group reporting purposes, including responsibility for maintaining general ledger accounts for corporation tax and deferred tax balances. This includes reconciliations and prompt action to clear differences.
The role also requires participation in group tasks, such as group relief, Group Payment Arrangements (including involvement in the computation and arrangement of payment of quarterly tax payments for approval) and HMRC correspondence on returns and computations (where required).
The development and maintenance of good working relationships and lines of communication with both internal and external business and finance contacts is necessary. Good communication skills are essential, as are an ability to show initiative, meet deadlines under pressure and take on new responsibilities quickly.
The key accountabilities and capabilities can therefore be summarised as follows:
§ Preparation of corporation tax computations and returns for submission to HMRC
§ Preparation of year end provisions for statutory and group reporting, covering current and deferred taxes
§ Strong tax technical skills in core areas of corporation tax (including loan relationships)
§ Good working knowledge of tax accounting matters under IFRS / IAS 12
§ Accuracy, time management and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure
§ Good PC skills, including a requirement for a good working knowledge of Alphatax software
§ Good analytical and problem solving abilities and ability to show initiative
§ Process mindset to participate and assist in project management initiatives (within a SOX/SAO environment)
We are therefore looking for someone with relevant corporation tax technical experience and tax accounting knowledge from their current role, and who has completed professional exams (either ACA/CA accountancy qualifications such as ICAEW/ICAS/ACCA and / or tax qualifications such as ATT/CIOT etc.) This is an excellent opportunity to join a large and diverse tax team, and develop your in-house tax experience.
