For more information, go to http://law.vanderbilt.edu/index.aspx Job Summary: This position serves as the Chief Operational Officer and is responsible for the general management of the administrative functions of the School of Law in support of the academic and teaching activities of the school under the direction of the Dean and consistent with the School?s strategic interests. Responsibilities include oversight of School operational resources and finances, estimated at approximately a $40 million. Preferred Education, Skills, and Experiences: 8 years progressive experience in a leadership position; with experience in an academic setting highly preferred. The desired candidate will have experience in higher education financial operations and will have a deep knowledge of academic budgets and how they work. Executive level writing ability is also highly desired. Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or other related discipline desired, with first consideration given to candidates with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree. Candidate selected must work at the highest levels of integrity, honesty, and openness, and create strong and enduring collaborative relationships with key leaders across the institution. Excellent communication skills and proactive problem solving skills are a must. Key Functions and Expected Performances: Provide leadership and guidance to operational/non-academic units within the Law School to meet the strategic needs of the School: Work with departmental directors to set and assess goals. Provide support through the provision of resources needed to achieve stated goals. Oversee Vanderbilt Law School's facilities and infrastructure required for the academic mission of the school. Oversight of Building Event Services Responsible for all Building Renovation Projects Oversight of Information Technology and AV Services Oversight of Mail Copy Services In coordination with the Provost Office of Administration and the Division of Finance, direct all aspects of financial management. Oversee the allocation of financial resources to support the needs of the students, faculty and staff. Ensure expenditure compliance with University and Federal regulations. Provide for appropriate record keeping and internal controls. Assess the current capabilities within the school and identify what financial and accounting practices and resources across all departments must be strengthened. Serve as key advisor to the Dean on administrative and financial matters and lead coordination of activities with the Central administration. Provide leadership to special projects as assigned by the Dean. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until position is filled.
