Assistant Fiscal Officer

 

The MIT Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS) seeks an individual to perform accounting and financial functions in the busy, service-oriented fiscal office of an academic research laboratory.

 

Responsibilities will include developing research proposals, mainly with government sponsors; working in close coordination with researchers to develop general and specific budgets and long-range projection analysis for research groups; implementing and maintaining proper accounting, financial, and recordkeeping reports and procedures and assuring post-award conformity to sponsor guidelines; approving paper and electronic requisitions; effective functional supervision of fiscal office team; maintaining and developing salary database projections; handling accurate and timely close-out of accounts; and serving as a key contact for faculty, research administration staff, and internal and external agencies regarding budget and fiscal matters.  Will also assist the senior fiscal officer with special assignments as needed. 

 

Requirements: a bachelor's degree in accounting; three years of post-degree accounting experience in an accounting environment; and strong PC computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Excel and Word. Additional accounting coursework and/or economics background a plus. Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communications skills required. Must possess superior organizational skills in order to effectively handle multiple tasks and changing priorities. Oracle and BrioQuery experience a plus. Seek a self-starter who requires minimal supervision.
