The Legal and Compliance Department of JPMorgan Chase Co is responsible for the provision of legal and compliance services to the Corporation. The department also includes the Office of the Secretary.
Legal and Compliance is organized by Practice Groups that conform to the organization of the Firm's lines of business (LOBs) and corporate staff areas, allowing the legal and compliance staff to work closely with specific groups on a daily basis. Each line of business has an LOB General Counsel, who is the Practice Group Head and who reports to the Firm's General Counsel. This structure provides the means for the legal and compliance teams to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the businesses and staff areas, and for the LOBs and staff areas to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to the legal and compliance teams in a timely manner.
Retail Financial Services consists of the following business units: Business Banking, Consumer Banking, Home Lending, Auto Lending, and Student Lending. Business Banking operates in approximately 5,000 branches across 23 states, providing financial services to approximately 2 million business clients. We are the leading bank for small businesses in our key markets, providing deposit and cash management services, payment solutions, and a broad array of lending products to meet our clients' access to capital needs. We provide these services through branch, phone and Internet channels.
JPMorgan Chase is seeking talented candidates for a new position in the Legal Compliance Department as Assistant General Counsel reporting directly to the Business Banking General Counsel and supporting Business Banking's Operations, Customer Experience, Collections/Recovery and Marketing and Product groups. The position will be located in Chicago, IL and will also provide counsel for Business Banking's varied sales and training initiatives.
The successful candidate will:
- Advise the business with respect to banking services, new product or pricing developments, marketing, regulatory and related issues impacting lenders and entities operating in a multi-state environment.
- Support day-to-day process and overall development of loan servicing and provide legal advice to collection and recovery teams in Business Banking.
- Support compliance colleagues regarding all laws and regulations governing the business.
- Provide primary legal advice to collection/recovery, customer service and operations teams in Business Banking.
- Advise Business Banking senior management and personnel on a wide range of significant and time sensitive issues affecting the business.
- Identify, escalate and resolve issues as appropriate.
- The selected candidate will work with other Chase Business Banking lawyers as well as colleagues in other lines of business to ensure comprehensive and effective legal and compliance support for Business Banking and to support special projects and matters of common concern and interest within Chase Business Banking.
Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have:
- Minimum of 10 years experience in providing legal support and advice to financial institutions either in private practice or as in-house counsel;
- A law degree; licensed to practice in a state in which Chase has a banking office preferably IL, NY, OH or CA;
- Demonstrated leadership, problem solving and project management skills; Good judgment and outstanding character;
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), management, interpersonal and organizational skills and a proven record of successfully handling multiple responsibilities and delegating and supervising tasks in a fast-paced, high profile and rapidly evolving environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with federal laws and regulations pertaining to banks, deposit accounts (e.g. Reg CC, Reg D), negotiable instrument laws, payment systems and wire transfer laws expected.
