Assistant Operations Manager Job in La Porte 77571, Texas US
- Oversee and direct the vessel operations to achieve the highest level of safety, productivity, and customer service with a focus constantly on cost and efficient use of labor.
- Perform safety meetings with the labor at the beginning of each shift to communicate any hazards they will encounter throughout the day.
- Participate with the training of other managers and assist with their development within the Marine Department.
- Provide creative and innovative ideas to improve operational productivity while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Participate and/or represent APM Terminals within various operations, safety, and labor related meetings
- Ensure that COPS reports, billing, flash numbers and labor payroll are timely and accurate.
- Responsible for safe and efficient use of terminal stevedoring equipment including STS cranes, RTG’s, heavy lifts, empty handlers, trucks and bomb carts.
- Constant focus on the cost of operational labor and ensure that man hours are held to a minimum.
- Effectively communicate with other departments to ensure the efficiency of the terminal as a whole.
- Have constant dialog with the Marine Shift Managers on daily operational issues and events, in their absence report same information to the Marine Operations Manager.
- Perform other job related tasks as needed
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from a maritime school preferred, and the capability to operate standard office equipment and utilize computer software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Receptive to innovative ideas and suggestions. Ability to adapt to change in a fast paced environment and work under pressure.
- Skills to promptly evaluate, find solutions, and provide direction to complex situations. Ability to structure short and long term plans to successfully accomplish task, while focusing on cost and quality of service. Develop strategies, set priorities and map a course of action to achieve objectives.
- Leadership to direct the work force daily and achieve operational expectations. Strong managerial, coaching and teambuilding skills. Take specific action to foster teamwork and motivate employees. Interact effectively with both internal and external customers. Constantly promote and live the Core Values of the AP Moller Group.
- Ability to type and verbally communicate in English.
- Strong computer skills and experience with MS Excel, Word, and Outlook. This includes creating/modifying formulas, producing data spreadsheets, and modifying templates.
