Assistant Portfolio Manager – Debt Funds - Real Estate - Our Client is renowned international financial institutions who are seeking to build a debt fund focused on the UK which will support the establishment of a new debt strategy especially in a European context. The Role: - This new headcount for an Assistant Portfolio Manager (Director Level) will help them realise their new debt funds initiative. The main areas of responsibility will be:-
- To play an active role in the development and marketing of the fund by interfacing with potential investors and supporting its marketing and closings.
- To establish effective working relationships within the business and contribute to the development of an effective operating model for the operation of the fund.
- To ensure that all appropriate governance / risk management is observed in operation of the fund.
- To support as appropriate new business development opportunities in real estate debt.
- To support Investors’ strategic objectives in the fund and other debt products.
- To provide ad hoc support to the real estate team that may be dealing with raising or refinancing debt secured on real estate assets.
- To work closely with UK business transactions, asset managers and in leverage the existing resource base for underwriting of newly originated commercial real estate mortgages.
- To originate and analyse (including prepare cash flow analysis) loan opportunities alongside the Portfolio Manager.
- To prepare and present credit/investment papers to Credit/Lending Committee.
- To progress due diligence to the point of loan execution including appointing due diligence service providers and agree heads of terms with potential borrowers.
- To be responsible for the performance and management of a portfolio of loans.
- To write appropriate business plans/credit update papers for the loans of the fund.
- To implement agreed strategies for the management and recovery of loans when in default and breach of covenant to be presented to Credit Committee for approval.
- To instruct and manage professional service providers in connection with loan defaults and enforcements (foreclosures).
- To review and instruct periodic valuations with valuers and appraisals and monitor the quarterly external valuations for your loans and liaise with the fund's valuers.
The Person: - To apply you will be educated to at least degree level and have a relevant qualifications (or equivalent) with between 5-10 years post-qualification experience in this sector (ideally real estate debt related) and a track record in property lending (origination, management) and of modelling and analysis. You will have experience of the London / UK markets. Additionally, you will be experienced in preparing and presenting presentations to new clients (winning business) and existing clients (fund reporting) and demonstrate an understanding of and ability to develop fund strategy and investment processes in a rapidly changing environment. You will have excellent investment skills as well as strong analytical capabilities and be able to lead and manage large teams of outsourced professional advisors/suppliers confidently and competently. You will be an innovative and dynamic self-starter.
