Assistant Project Accountant

A well respected public sector firm in central Exeter is seeking an assistant project accountant to support the Senior Project Accountant and Performance Accountant in the implementation of a wide range of financial projects, and to assist in the process of presenting outcomes to operational staff. This assignment is initially for 6 months, but could be extended for the right candidate.

Key activities within the role will be:
- Investigate and analyse complex accounting problems, seeking explanations and suggesting appropriate solutions where possible.

- Develop skills in interpreting management information in order to promote improvements, or provide recommendations as required.
- Participate fully in project work, in order to ensure the successful completion of the objectives set for the team.
- Design and format spreadsheets and databases for specific purposes. 
- Responsible for introducing, adapting and improving financial systems for use by others.

- Assist in the completion of other monitoring returns, both internal and external, including annual accounts, financial returns and reference costs.

Person specification:
- Experience in cost accounting
- Good knowledge and experience of financial systems, Agresso would be preferential
- Strong Excel skills, the ability to use pivot tables and lookups is essential
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and the ability to prioritise workload.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills together with a professional positive attitude.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to perform complex investigations.
- Willingness to be flexible in requirements due to the project orientated nature of the role.
