Assistant Store Manager Job in Mobile, Alabama US
Summary
Hourly retail position. Supervises, coordinates and oversees the activities of workers in each department of retail sore under the direction of the store manager by performing the duties outlined below. The Assistant Manager needs to perform each function in the store, including, but not limited to, checking customers out at the cash register, cutting fabric for customers, offering assistance to customers, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Under the direction of the Store Manager:

Assigns duties to worker and schedules break periods, work hours, and vacations.
- Instrumental in achieving positive sales growth of the store.
- Understands and trains workers in store policies, department policies, and job duties.
- Listens to customer complaints, examines returned merchandise, and uses discretion to resolve problems in order to restore and promote good public relations.
- Takes control of the sales staff in completing difficult transactions or otherwise handling difficult situations and makes discretionary on-the-spot decisions regarding the best way to handle such problems.
- Understands and trains employees on cash handling and office procedures.
- Installs and removes department cash-register-receipt tape and audits cash receipts.
- Responsibilities will include product ordering and inventory controls.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Works along with the Store Manager to manage all employees in the store. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED; or 1-3 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents and apply the contents therein, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
Math Skills
Ability to calculate gross margin, markdowns, discounts, commissions, percentages, and other general mathematical equations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and adapt to a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to meet the immediate needs and goals of the particular store. Use business judgment and discretion to further the overall goals of the store.
