Assistant Store Manager- Merchandise

The Assistant Store Manager – Merchandise is an assistant to the Store Manager whose primary focus are sustaining effective customer relationships by: leading and developing a Merchandise team that provides value added experiences for customers through a store that serves the customer; and analyzing and optimizing inventory and merchandising processes.

• Creates a store that serves the customer by accurately interpreting and adjusting the Merchandise Assortment Guide (MAG) and maintaining effective merchandising standards by:
• supporting and assisting Merchandise associates in physical MAG execution, presentation standards and special event set up
• modifying merchandise layout, presentation and inventory based on sales analysis
• supporting and assisting Merchandise associates with in-store inventory replenishment (including during special events), signage execution, maintenance, pricing, and price changes
• effectively managing flow of merchandise, including ensuring merchandise is staged and floor-ready (hung, folded, priced and security tagged)
• supporting and assisting with presentation standards, including re-folding, re-stacking, re-hanging, straightening, re-sizing and color blocking
• supporting inventory integrity, updates verification, shipping, receiving and stockroom organization, including garbage and recycling functions
• ensuring that all fixturing is to MAG standards and stock is replenished for peak traffic hours
• driving stockroom productivity through effective planning, coaching, and execution
• Makes use of merchandising knowledge and expertise to enhance ease-of-shop experience and to exploit key items
• Analyses proportionate displays (linear foot exercise) and modifies merchandise plans accordingly to optimize sales
• Optimal utilization of tools such as product adjacencies, MAG, signage and event tables
• Supports the Imagewear Coordinator with business to business (Imagewear) management; including setting objectives, order process, tracking, follow up, communication, account transactions, and ensures the organization of the stock and inventory
• Focuses on customer assistance through a well-organized and well-replenished store
• Be flexible to carry out work assignments for merchandising and customer service as required

People Leadership
• Establishes daily and weekly team goals; provides on-going feedback about results
• Clarifies role expectations and goals
• Creates a culture of team accountability as well as individual accountability
• Effectively utilizes awards program to recognize associate achievement
• Reviews scheduling to ensure right fit between Merchandise associates scheduled and merchandising demands
• Ensures that the Merchandising team’s tasks are performed according to scheduling guidelines
• May partner with Assistant Store Manager– Customer Service or Store Manager as required to ensure associate practices support action plans
• Ensures standards of ‘Monthly Execution Checklist’, and customer satisfaction (J scores) survey scores are met
• Assists Store Manager in recruiting, selection, orientation, strategic scheduling, roster development, and performance management
• Assists Store Manager to determine best fit of all Merchandising team within strategic roster based on performance, assessment (CCP) survey results, and associate preferences
• Reviews daily planner with Store Manager to identify productivity strengths, opportunities, coaches to leverage business opportunities, and maximize results
• Assesses schedule for possible pairings of personnel to take advantage of training opportunities and makes recommendations to Store Manager
• Serves as shift leader when required, responsible for productive performance through real-time task assignments and direct supervision; ensures Customer Service team is maximizing productivity
• Development of Customer Service team by providing ongoing coaching, feedback, setting team expectations, and communication regarding performance to ensure team is productively delivering customer service standards
• Ensures training programs are delivered to provide all possible opportunities for associates to be successful
• Practices on-the-job training and directs coaching at all possible times on floor
• Conducts regular training coaching and delivers performance feedback
• Uses all available training tools to reach merchandise standards
• Maximizes opportunities by coaching Merchandising team to deliver ‘Clothes That Work’ service model experience
• Ensures Merchandise team has been sufficiently cross-trained to participate in "all hands on deck" instances
• Continually self-educates on policies, procedures and skills

Business and Financial Management
• Assists Store Manager in development and execution of team action plan to address areas of strength and opportunity
• Maximizes store front line contribution by driving sales, productivity, and controlling expenses
• Reviews weekly with Store Manager the demands analysis to identify productivity and expense-related opportunities as they relate to Merchandise team; drives productivity of Merchandising team at all times
• Effectively plans and monitor’s weekly backroom planner and communicates to team
• Ensures completion of ‘Backroom Productivity Tracker’ is being completed and takes action to improve results
• Proactively responds to customer traffic trends and initiates action to achieve productivity goals
• Leads team to achieve sales per hour and transactions per hour productivity goals
• Understands and demonstrates knowledge of the value of top line sales and customer satisfaction as a result of being "in stock" in key items as shown by continually improving scores measuring in-stock position
• Analyses sales by key item, category, and style and makes merchandising modifications to optimize sales
• Drives sales through prompt execution of MAG, changes in price, and other merchandising drivers, including accurate and appropriate signage
• Translates sales analysis information into merchandise coaching action plans 
• Follows up and resolves pricing, SKU, and inventory integrity issues to minimize shrink
• Drives timely replenishment and maintenance of ease-of-shop standards to drive top line results
• Coaches to share understanding with rest of team
• Builds and maintains a consistent level of excellence in store execution as evidenced by high and increasing units per transaction, average basket size and customer frequency
• Assists in planning and execution of special events to drive top line sales
• Understands and supports business to business (Imagewear) functions
• Reviews survey results as they relate to store merchandising and presentation

Administrative Oversight
• Compliance to store operating policies and procedures
• Operates administrative systems, including, inventory systems, point of sales, Lotus Notes, and MS Office
• Reports and communicates on key responsibilities and tasks as required

Loss Prevention Management
• Support any loss prevention policies or processes

Skills/Qualifications
Education:
• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent

Knowledge:
• Retail practices, including customer service, optimizing sales, and financial planning
• Management skill, including both supervision and management
• People skills, including leading, motivating, communicating, coaching, and feedback
• Retail practices, including merchandising, market awareness, and opportunity development
• Retail business operating and administrative systems, including point of sale, MS Office, and Lotus Notes

Experience: 
• Minimum 1 – 2 years of experience in a supervisory role, including real-time task direction, supervision and follow up.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
• Ability to stand/walk for 8 hours
• Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted and carry as required
• Ability to lift and turn repeatedly throughout the shift
• Ability to lift above shoulder and from floor to shoulder and floor to waist
• Ability to twist, turn, reach and work above shoulder level
• Safe ladder use for shelving retrieving stock, floor displays and signage
