This team is responsible for ensuring that PC business inAsiais appropriately reserved, and monitored on a quarterly basis, and for making reserving recommendations to the Regional Reserving Committee. The team is instrumental in the production of US GAAP and EVM financial results, in addition to all local regulatory requirements for reserving inAsia.
This team also provides input and oversight on the risk -taking of large transactions forAsiaand supporting the CRO function and improving the overall quality of financial and risk management for PC business within the Asian insurance carriers, whilst ensuring there is a feedback loop between pricing and reserving.
Responsibilities:
- Guiding the development of Asia-specific risk standards to the extent they are required, plus overseeing the region's compliance with these and other relevant Group-wide policies and guidelines
- Providing the Asia Management Team and relevant local committees with full transparency of the risks of the business through regular risk reporting and discussions
- Ensuring independent actuarial and risk assessments of transactions and terms of trade
- Quarterly portfolio monitoring - US GAAP reserving and regional reserving committee presentation
The precise role will be tailored to the skills and experience of the individual. The job holder will have the opportunity to lead one or more aspects of the team's work and to develop an understanding of our business in Asia. Below are examples of activities this position holder is expected to perform:
- Assist in large transaction risk reviews and Group projects
- Assist in the annual Costing and Reserving Linkage risk review process
- Complete the quarterly and annual valuations (statutory, US GAAP and EVM bases) on assigned portfolios, for sign off purposes (key output: quarterly reserve reports and relevant local branch reporting)
- Assist in the preparation of the slide pack and related analyses and documentation for the quarterly Regional Reserving Committee (RRC) meetings
- Support RAM Asia team's responsibility as a key input provider for business steering via operational and experience feedback on portfolios highlighting areas for improvement
- Complete all local statutory reserving and reporting requirements of the regulators in the Asia PC branches as assigned
- Effective interaction with other internal partner functions
Requirements:
- Actuarial trainee actively pursuing fellowship qualification with a recognised Actuarial professional body (eg.Australia,UK,USA,Canada)
- 3+ years of experience working in the insurance industry, valuation or pricing experience welcome
- 5+ years experience in PC actuarial experience.
- Previous Reinsurance experience highly regarded
- Analytical skills, and the ability to handle both conceptual and practical issues
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, particularly across different cultures (Asian diversity) and different functions (eg underwriting, finance, claims)
- Ability and courage to constructively challenge strategic and transactional business propositions, but also the business mind set to be solutions oriented
